The community of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, strongly supports the idea of becoming a 'Highly Urbanized City' (HUC), as shown in a recent Facebook survey. The approval reached 82%, with almost 90% of those surveyed in favor.

Naipanalo natin ang Arbitral Ruling ngunit hindi sumusunod ang gobyerno ng China at patuloy parin silang gumagawa ng pekeng isla at nangingisda sa karagatan natin. Dapat ang mga policy makers natin ay magpakita na ng paninindigan at mag-ingay sa isyu ng pananakop ng China sa WPS. Nakasalalay dito ang soberanya at pagkain natin. Kung mananatili sila dyan, siguradong mauubos ng yaman dagat natin at maraming mangingisda ang mawawalan ng kabuhayan dahil sa pambubully nila. Hindi lang yun, nanganganib ang national security natin dahil maari nilang ikontrol ang naturang dagat. Kung maisasabatas ang panukala na ito at madeklaramg protected area ang West Philippine Sea, malilimitahan ang pangingisda dito at maprotektahan ang ating yaman dagat. Natural na di papayag ang gobyerno ng China dahil hindi na sila makakapangisda sa ating dagat at makakapag layag ng mga vessels nila dito. Kaya dapat nang aprubahan ang batas na to sa lalong madaling panahon upang tuluyan nang umalis ang mga yan at maprotektahan ang ating karagatan laban sa abusadong fishing vessels ng China.

SEN. Ana Theresia "Risa" Hontiveros urged the government to bring the West Philippine Sea (WPS) issue to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The senator joined the recent call of retired Justice Antonio Carpio for China to stop its aggressive actions. She asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to sponsor a resolution before the UNGA that will call on China to stop its harassment of Filipino vessels in the WPS.

She said that "a UN General Assembly Resolution, while not legally binding, carry significant political weight and serve as expressions of the will and consensus of the international community, with the potential to shape international norms, influence national policies, and provide guidance for the work of other UN organs, specialized agencies, and regional organizations."

"As far back as 2016, through the landmark Arbitral ruling, it has been established that there was no legal basis for China to claim historic rights over Filipino resources," Hontiveros said in a statement.

On June 12, 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration rendered a landmark award in favor of the Philippines rejecting China's nine-dash line which imposes expansive claims to the entire South China Sea and encroaches on the maritime entitlements of other coastal states.

The senator accused China of breaching its obligations under international law "when it violated our sovereign rights over our continental shelf and exclusive economic zone."

"This is a clear and unequivocal decision. The Hague Ruling will never be diminished by China's antagonistic and perpetual noncompliance," Hontiveros said. "Beijing's blunt refusal to accept her legal fate should have serious consequences. The UN General Assembly should be able to tell China to behave," she added.

Hontiveros honored the legacy of the late senator Rodolfo Biazon, whom she described as "a staunch advocate" of the country's interests in the WPS.

Biazon's remains were transferred to the Senate on Monday for necrological services. "Former Sen[ator] Biazon is known for his unwavering advocacy of the interests of the Philippines, especially in the WPS," Hontiveros said. She said in 2021, Biazon called on the government to make a clear stand on the disputed territories and urged the National Security Council to map out a united national position on the issue.

But the President reminded the public that the country's "best defense" against online scammers are "knowledgeable consumers" who are able to determine scam methods.

"As I said, it's basically an arms race but our best defense is a knowledgeable consumer who can see for themselves, and determine for themselves that those that are legitimate offers of, let's say, a promotional offer as opposed to a scam," Marcos said.

The President issued the warning after filing criminal complaints against a gas corporation for its involvement in investment fraud and the sale of securities without proper permit.

The said corporation lured victims to a "too good to be true" co-ownership program scheme, promising them a 40 percent return of investment and an additional 60 percent share in net profits from its 17 total gas stations... despite only having three to five actual gas stations, according to reports.

Marcos advised the public that when people get a message and there is a deal being presented and it sounds too good to be true, they should proceed with caution.

"There is no such thing as 100 percent risk-free. There is no way to guarantee these enormous returns on what they are claiming, on the money that you put, that you give them," Marcos said.

"If the public is aware and knows and is able to spot because of the way that these scams are presented, then that is the best defense that we have," he added.

Asked about punishing scammers involved in such schemes, the President said anyone found guilty of promoting such scams will have to be dealt with using the "full force of the law."

But he admitted that the big challenge is finding those people who do not usually maintain identifiable offices or establishments while they operate.

"These are people sitting in somebody's basement with a computer, which they can just shut down, sell away, buy a new one, and keep going. So, that's the trouble that we are finding now," Marcos said.

"The best that we can do, there are certain instances, especially when they're very large-scale that we can find exactly where it's coming from. But again, it's very movable --- these are not offices, corporate offices in a big building."
