Recently, I encountered a graduate who struggled with basic computer tasks like downloading and organizing files—a surprising revelation. Despite her proficiency with a smartphone and eloquent speech, she lacked fundamental computer skills. I offered to assist her, recognizing the importance of her task.
Was I shocked? Hell no! I have seen people who honestly do not know how to operate a computer. Infact they run away from any scenario that will require them to operate a computer.
However, I was a bit amazed because this lady speaks excellently well and operates her phone seamlessly. So I expected that at least she would know the basics of a computer. But I was wrong. Well, I left what I was doing and I decided to help her out since what she wanted to do was very important.
Just like this lady, there are so many people, I mean graduates who cannot confidently operate a computer. They do not know how to use tools such as Microsoft Office or even Google workspace.
Then among these same people, you hear them rant all the time that there is no job or nobody wants to employ them.
Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace is crucial in today's job market. I urge job seekers to invest time in learning these basics, as they are integral to many workplace environments.
Some organizations if not all use these tools for their day to day operations and I sincerely encourage people who are actively looking to get hired to learn these basics.
