New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu signed measures into law that will limit transition-related care for transgender minors and bar some trans students from competing on school sports teams that match their gender identities.

Sununu’s signature on the health care measure makes New Hampshire the final of 23 Republican-controlled states in the country — where Republicans control the governor’s mansion and both chambers of their state’s legislature — to ban or limit transition-related care for minors. In total, 26 states now have laws limiting or banning such care, according to the Movement Advancement Project, an LGBTQ rights think tank.

The health care measure, H.B. 619, will prevent trans minors from receiving transition-related surgeries and bar physicians from referring patients for out-of-state procedures. It does not ban other forms of gender-affirming care, such as puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy. The law takes effect at the start of next year.

The sports measure, H.B. 1205, will require the state’s students in grades 5-12 to compete on school sports teams that match the gender marker on their birth certificates. This law takes effect next month.

"If there's a sudden chill in the air, of thunderstorms you should beware..."

This Wild Weather Wednesday, add a new catchphrase to your folksy forecast lexicon! While many of us know the classic expression "red skies at night, sailor's delight," we can memorize plenty of other predictable weather patterns by taking advantage of our brains' affinity for a good rhyme.

In this case, the goal is to remember that although a cool breeze feels like a blessing on a hot summer day, it may in fact be an omen of worse weather to come. A sudden chilly draft may be caused by the outflow boundary of an approaching storm. An outflow boundary, or gust front, is a wall of cold air created by a thunderstorm that can be accompanied by shifting winds and an increase in barometric pressure. They can often be visually identified by the presence of arcus clouds, or long, low, horizontal cloud formations.

Thunderstorms are particularly dangerous in the dunefield where lightning can travel many miles and the lack of vegetation leaves you exposed. If you suspect a thunderstorm is approaching while you're in the park, return to your vehicle or go inside as soon as possible.

Less than 24 hours after Vice President Kamala Harris announced she would run for president following Joe Biden’s exit from the race, q***r people flooded the internet with cheeky videos and memes about her candidacy.

A supercut of Harris laughing, set to a Charli XCX song from the album “Brat,” quickly went viral, with more than 1.3 million views. Within hours of the announcement, photos and videos circulated of a group of men on Fire Island Pines, a q***r-friendly beach on New York’s Long Island, wearing cropped T-shirts in “brat” lime green — the color of Charli XCX’s album — with “Kamala” emblazoned on the front in the same typeface used on the album.

“BRAT Kamala shirts already on Fire Island. The g**s move SO FAST,” a user wrote.

Support for Harris’ candidacy extended offline to LGBTQ rights groups, including the Human Rights Campaign, the country’s largest LGBTQ advocacy organization. The group touted her work as attorney general of California to end the so-called gay/trans panic defense, which has allowed those accused of homicide to receive lesser sentences by saying they panicked after having found out a victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
