Happy new year everyone! 2024 was a busy one!

LPs by Mouses, Ivan The Tolerable, Elaine Palmer, The Dead Seat, Liz Corney, James Leonard Hewitson, The Last Of The Fallen Angels, Faithful Johannes plus lots of gigs and a few 7”s!

2025 will be quieter on the LP front but we will be having a massive party / festival at Pealie's Barn on 31st May. Can’t wait! More details soon

Ivan The Tolerable did a box set for Norman records that was limited to 20 and they flew out. Anyway I was cleaning out the warehouse (eg my garage) and found a few of volume 1 records only (no sleeves). Volume 1 is completely sold out fyi.

There’s something special about the moment a test pressing hits the turntable.

Today, I had that privilege with "Splendid Beast", the debut album from Weathership. As the vinyl spins, headphones on, coffee in hand, I’m overwhelmed with pride for this incredible record and the journey it represents.

This project has been close to my heart from the very beginning. I remember cutting early demos for some of these tracks during taster days for University Centre Middlesbrough’s Audio and Music Production degree programme, showcasing our studios and sharing the creative process with prospective students. Later, I helped facilitate recording sessions, with one of our talented students, Hannah Jukes, assisting in engineering guitar parts. I even recorded the drums as a favour for the band — and eventually, they asked me to mix and master the album.

Jim’s songwriting has always resonated with me, and I’ve been a fan of the incredible work the lads in the band have done both with Weathership and in their other projects. Splendid Beast gave me the chance to channel my alt-rock influences and approach the mix with Teesside’s own take on an album like Athlete’s "Tourist". Hearing it now, fully realized on vinyl, it’s a surreal and emotional moment.

I can’t wait for more people to experience this fantastic record. Splendid Beast truly lives up to its name, and I hope the right ears hear it — this deserves to be heard far and wide.
