Six nomination papers received for Jalandhar West bye-election

JALANDHAR
On Thursday, returning Officer Alka Kalia received as many as six nomination papers for the bye-election of the 34-Jalandhar West Assembly Constituency.
District Election Officer Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that independent candidate Ajay Bhagat, Bhartiya Janta Party candidate Sheetal Angural, independent candidate Neetu, Akali Dal( Amritsar) candidate Sarabjit Singh ,Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Binder Kumar and Rashtri Ekta Party candidate Iqbal Chand have submitted their nominations.

He said that the last date for filing nomination papers is June 21, 2024, with scrutiny scheduled for June 24, 2024. Candidates can withdraw papers on June 26, 2024. Voting will take place on July 10, 2024, and the results will be announced after counting on July 13.

Three drug peddlers arrested under NDPS Act

The Shahkot police on Wednesday arrested three drug peddlers on charges of selling he**in and intoxicant tablets.
Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Saini said that the accused had been identified as Ravinder Kaushal alias Raju Raj son of Kewal Krishan a resident of Mohalla Bagh Wala, Shahkot, and recovered from him 5 grams of he**in and Rs 8100 drug money, Lal Chand son of Sundar Lal a resident of Sindharr village and recovered from him 3 grams he**in, and Saabi son of Resham Singh a resident of Malsian village and recovered from him170 intoxicant tablets(loose).
SHO said that cases under sections 21/22/27 /61/85 of the NDPAS Act have been registered against the accused.

The Lohian Khas police have arrested a villager for selling illicit country-made liquor. Investigating Officer Avtar Singh said 15 bottles of h***h were seized from the accused identified as Binder Singh a resident of Mianni village. A case under section 61/1/14 of the Punjab Excise Act was registered against the accused.

The Nurmahal police have booked two persons on the charge of assaulting a woman.
Investigating Officer (IO) Jagjit Singh said that the accused have been identified as Davinder alias Toni and Daljit Singh residents of Mithrra village.
Kulwinder Kaur wife of Gurpreet Singh a resident of the same village complained to the police that she was going to her house with her husband on May 17 when the accused waylaid attacked injured and threatened them.
IO said that a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341(wrongful restraint 506(criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. No arrests have been made and raids are being conducted to nab the accused.

The Shahkot and Nurmahal police have arrested two men on a charge of selling illicit liquor.
Shahkot investigating officer Sulinder Singh said that the accused has been identified as Shambu a resident of Mohalla Bagh Wala Shahkot .15 bottles of h***h were recovered from his possession. A case under the sections of the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused.

The Lohian Khas police have booked a motorcyclist r on the charges of rash driving and causing hurt by an act endangering life.
The investigating officer (IO) Avtar Singh said that the accused has been identified as Baljit Singh a resident of Chak Bundala village.
Sasrabjit Singh a resident of the same village complained to the police that he was going to Nerby village on his motorcycle on May 11 when the accused came from the Lohian side on his bullet and hit his motorcycle and seriously injured him.
The investigating officer said that a case under sections 279(rash driving on the public highway), 337,338(causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 427(mischief) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.

Jalandhar, Ludhiana Police Commissioners transferred to non-election duties.

CHANDIGARH
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has transferred two Punjab Police officers from their current posts to non-election duties.
A spokesperson of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer stated that Swapan Sharma, currently serving as the Police Commissioner of Jalandhar, and Kuldeep Chahal, currently serving as the Police Commissioner of Ludhiana, have been transferred from their present posts.

The Nakodar city police have arrested two gangsters on the charge of extortion by putting a person in fear of death.
Station House Officer (SHO) Dharminder Kalyan said that the accused have been identified as Sandeep Singh son of Gurdeep Singh a resident of Malarri village and Vijay Kumar son of Mangi a resident of Nakodar .
SHO said that the victim a resident of Malarri village had complained to the police that he received a call from telephone number 98721-12383 in which the accused demanded Rs 5 lakhs from him and threatened to kill his son if no money was paid within time at a place of his choice.

SHO said that the police had received a piece of secret information that the accused was running a prostitution business in a room constructed in an undeveloped colony near Sianni Wal village on the Nakodar Jalandhar road and charging Rs 500 per hour from every customer which is bad for the area.

Member Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku , MLA Sheetal Angural, and Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today participated in the Shobha Yatra to mark the 647th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas ji in Jalandhar city.

Congratulating the people on this auspicious day, they urged the people to follow the path shown by Guru Ravidas ji for the welfare of humanity.

Travel agent arrested for duping Nakodar village resident of Rs 18 Lakhs

The Nakodar city police have arrested a travel agent for duping a Nakodar village resident of Rs.18 lakhs on the pretext of sending him abroad.
Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kulwinder Singh said that the accused has been identified as Joginder Singh son of Gurbakash Singh a resident of Bhainni Gillan Kamboj village in Amarit Sar.

DSP said that Ajay Kumar a resident of Mahun Wal village had complained to Jalandhar(rural) senior superintendent of police (SSP) that he had paid Rs 18 lakhs to the accused for facilitating his migration to Canada, but he was not sent abroad nor return the money.
DSP said that a case under sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, and section 13 of the Punjab Travel Profession Regulation Act was registered against the accused and three others.

MP, DC CP reviews preparations at Shoba Yatra Marg

Member of Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, and Commissioner of Police Sawapan Sharma today directed the officials to ensure adequate arrangements for the Shobha Yatra to mark the Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji on 23rd February.

MP, DC, and CP on Thursday visited the Shobha Yatra route and minutely took stock of all the arrangements made by the administration there.

Presiding over a meeting with the officers and various religious and social organizations here at Sri Guru Ravidas Dham, they said that the Police, Civil Administration, and Municipal Corporation have made elaborate arrangements for the Shobha Yatra.

The MP asked the Police department to ensure elaborate security arrangements for the event besides proper deployment of lady Police during the Shobha Yatra which will pass from several areas of the city.

He categorically mentioned that proper traffic management should be ensured so that devotees do not face any kind of problem during the Shobha Yatra.

Police officials were also told to set up control rooms to ensure proper security arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Police commissioner has said that traffic diversions have already been made besides the deployment of traffic police personnel at important chowks so that devotees should not face any inconvenience during Shobha Yatra.

Besides that MP and the DC also told the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar to make the necessary arrangements for cleanliness, the supply of potable drinking water, mobile toilet units, and decoration on the Shobha Yatra route.

They also told PSPCL officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the function and the health department was asked to deploy special medical teams on the occasion.

Free meal service at Civil Hospital inaugurated.

Jalandhar, February 22-
In a major reprieve to the needy and underprivileged people visiting the local civil hospital for treatment, Member of Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, and Commissioner of Police Sawapan Sharma on Thursday inaugurated a free meal service inside hospital premises.

Speaking on the occasion, the MP said that the service would help several needy people to have nutritious meals. They mentioned that the Om Asha Charitable Trust would render this service free of cost during which free meals would be provided to the people.

He also expresses their satisfaction with the quality of meals being provided here. They stated that the service would be free of cost to the people during the entire week. Not only the patients, but anyone could eat the meal free of cost here. He also informed that the nutrient-rich food would be provided to the visitors daily without any hurdle.

The Deputy commissioner said that the administration has signed an MOU with the NGO under this initiative and lauded the efforts of NGO head Satish Jain, owner of Haveli Group, for this cause.

Pointing out further, the DC urged the NGOs to come forward for such a noble cause to serve the poor and underprivileged sections of society.

Two drug peddlers arrested under NDPS Act

The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling poppy husk. Station house officer (SHO)Jai Pal said that 7 kilograms of poppy husk were recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Manjit Singh alias Kaka son of Mukhtiar Singh a resident of Bhode village under Bilga police station.
SHO said that a case under section 15 (b) 1/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and impounded a car in which he was traveling with the contraband.

Investigating Officer (IO) Amrik Lal said that the accused has been identified as Parminder Singh gh a resident near Sukhni Pul Alamgir, Kala Sanghian in Kapurthala.

Tilak Raj resident of Muglanni village under Nakodar Sadar police station said that the accused was driving his car negligently and hit his motorcycle on February 20 near Uppal village gate on the Nurmahal-Nakodar Road and killed Mangat Ram of Muglanni village and injured him.

Punjab Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh, and Member Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku on Wednesday urged the masses to follow the teachings of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji to create an egalitarian society. Addressing the gathering during the flagging off of a train of pilgrims from the city Railway station to Benaras for celebrating the upcoming Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass ji, the Minister and MP, after taking blessings from head of Dera Ballan Sant Baba Niranjan Dass ji, said that the state government is duty bound to ensure the wellbeing of the poorest of poor. They further said that no stone will be left unturned to ensure the well-being of the poorest of poor strata of society. They said that Sri Guru Ravidass Ji gave the message of welfare of the entire humanity, and equality of all the sections of the society thus creating a society based on egalitarian values.

They further mentioned that Sri Guru Ravidass Ji laid out the concept of such an ideal society where nobody undergoes suffering of any kind. They reiterated that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was committed to carving out a society based on the teachings and philosophy of Sri Guru Ravidass ji. Special camps under `Aap di Sarkar,’ initiative receiving overwhelming response in Punjab- Balkar Singh

Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh today said that the `Aap di Sarkar, Aap de Dwar’ initiative has received an overwhelming response in the state as a large number of people were getting the benefit of the on-the-spot citizen
services during these camps.

The minister today visited camps held at Randhawa Masanda, Naugajja, and Kartapur where he interacted with people and took their valuable feedback regarding this initiative.

Addressing the gathering here, the Minister said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led state government has taken this path-breaking decision to provide citizen services to people at doorsteps under which Aap di Sarkar, Aap de Dwar program was launched in the state.

He informed that about 900 such camps were being held in the district under which applicants were getting on-the-spot benefits of about 44 different citizen services.

The Minister said that the Punjab Government was committed to providing citizen services to the people near their home adding that the government has also started helpline 1076 service, through which people can avail the services at their homes.

The Minister also asked the officials to ensure that the benefits of government services reach the deserving people so that no person is deprived of the benefits of citizen services.

Meanwhile, the minister also listened to the grievances of the people and issued directions to the officials to ensure prompt resolution of them.

It may be mentioned here that people are getting benefits of citizen services at these camps including birth certificates, income certificates, scholarships, residence certificates, caste certificates, old age pensions, payment of bills, verification of revenue department records, marriage registration, copy of death certificate, attestation of documents, Rural Area Certificate, Fard Creation, Common Caste Certificate, Shagun Scheme, Land Marking, Countersignature of certificates, the counter signature of police clearance certificate, change in death certificate besides others. He also urged people to ensure their maximum participation in these camps to make this scheme a mega-success.

Nakodar woman booked for assaulting woman.
NAKODAR
The Nakodar City police have booked a woman on a charge of assaulting a woman.
Investigating Officer (IO) Rannjit Singh said that the accused had been identified as Ranni wife of Tarsem Lal, a Mohalla Rehman Pura Nakodar resident.
Rajani a resident of the same locality complained to the police that her child was playing with other children outside the house on February 8.
She said in her complaint that the accused started beating her son after hearing the noise of children and when she tried to save her son the accused assaulted and injured her.
IO said that a case under sections 323,325(voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and further investigations are on.
