On May 15, 2023, Hilda Baci broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time by an individual after smashing the previous record set by Chef Lata Tondon in Rewa, India in 2019.
The Akwa Ibom chef, who broke Tondon’s record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, cooked for 100 hours and 40 minutes to set a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking.
Although the Guinness World Record is yet to confirm Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, Maliha Mohammed has announced that she plans to take on the ambitious culinary challenge this year.
On August 18, 2019, Maliha Mohammed shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest time cooking with a remarkable 75-hour non-stop cooking marathon at the Kenya Bay Beach Resort.
Over the course of three days, the Kenyan chef prepared 400 dishes, ranging from traditional Swahili delicacies like coconut beans, fried fish, mandazis, mukimo, and githeri,
She also cooked international favorites dishes such as Indian biryani, chapatti, Portuguese chicken peri peri, and more than 10 varieties of pizza.
Maliha also broke the record by cooking for 72 hours in 2018, but she claimed that her efforts were never officially recognised by the Guinness World Records.
Taking to her Instagram page on Wednesday, the Kenyan chef announced that she had written to the Guinness World Records team in December 2022, informing them of her decison to challenge two cooking record in 2023.
