Nigel Tragedy - Cringe out now on CRL Studios!
Nigel Tragedy is the newest audio adventure from Sumibraxis (Angel of Violence/ Toothgnasher). Rather than try to explain the vision and inspiration for this project, here it is in the creator’s own words.
“This project was supposed to be a joke. While reaching the punchline I was forced to look at the music I had created, and take a different direction. The music refused to work with lyrics that were intentionally cheese, and cringy. The music was demanding purity, and tradition, so what does one do? One does the old school gothy thing, and makes beautiful things out of tragedy, painful circumstances, misery, loneliness.
Today’s goth, doesn’t have the same feel that the old stuff did. It doesn’t have the same sense of being artsy, but then again, I am not of this generation. It won’t have that appeal to me. I thought about it long and hard. Rock, metal, country, pop; one can see those genre’s today. Then listen to old school Death, The Doors, Deicide, Nitzer Ebb, Neubauten, Skinny Puppy, Chem Lab, Su***de Commando, Snog, et al, and hear the ties and influences from one to the other. Modern goth, and old school goth, do not have that tie. They are two completely different forms styles, and methods, and the why, is its own fault.
The youth of punk, rock, metal, industrial (in all its forms) country, and pop, are almost taught, by some elder fan of that respective genre, “the ways” of that genre. The lovers, the music, the instruments, the way of life, what’s ‘cool’ and what isn’t. Goth fu**ed that ALL up by being kept away from would be fans, which left the younger generations nothing to carry on, unless they were extremely lucky and knew someone that wasn’t a total c**t. The whole purpose of creating the younger generations is solely so they can carry our proverbial torches. Goth said “F**k a torch, I’m putting this bitch OUT!”
It’s really quite a shame. It would have been nice to see what Goth evolved into, instead of being wholly recreated, because the gate keepers couldn’t stop gate keeping even into their 40’s.
Nigel Tragedy is an attempt to run through the evolutionary path between goth of today, and of yesterday; an attempt to show what could have been,
Main influences on this album, believe it or not were old school bands, and some of todays as well.
- Flesh for Lulu
- Black Tape for a Blue Girl
- Dead Can Dance
- Switchblade Symphony
- Johnny Goth
- Kim Dracula
And many more. These named were the main influences though.
What’s the story with the AI art work?
Given what I’ve already explained, it is perfect. An old image, in an old style created with modern instruments and tools.”
