Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce
Ingredients:
¾ cup yellow mustard
½ cup brown sugar
⅓ cup honey
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
Instructions:
Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix together the yellow mustard, brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
Heat Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
Simmer: Once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer gently for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Cool: After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
Store: Transfer the cooled sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Notes:
Adjusting Sweetness: If you prefer a less sweet sauce or are following a low-sugar diet, you can reduce or omit the honey and substitute the brown sugar with a sugar alternative.
Variations: Feel free to experiment with different types of mustard, such as Dijon or whole grain, to add a unique twist to the sauce.
Serving Suggestions: This sauce pairs exceptionally well with pork, chicken, and even fish. Use it as a marinade, baste during grilling, or serve it as a dipping sauce on the side.
