Coca-Cola Rekindles Nostalgia with Returnable Glass Bottle Campaign

Coca-Cola has launched a vibrant nationwide campaign to celebrate the returnable glass bottle, a cherished symbol of togetherness and nostalgia for generations of Kenyans. This three-month campaign is being rolled out across all regions, including Nairobi, Eastern, Western, Nyanza, Coast, Rift Valley, and Mount Kenya, aiming to reconnect Kenyans with the joy of enjoying Coca-Cola in its iconic glass packaging.

In addition to bringing back fond memories, the campaign highlights the affordability and sustainability of the returnable glass bottle, which is available in sizes starting at just KES 20 for a 200ml bottle.

Speaking about the campaign, a Coca-Cola representative shared, “Coca-Cola in a returnable glass bottle is more than just a drink—it’s a tradition that has brought Kenyans together for generations. Its crisp taste and nostalgic appeal create unforgettable memories of good times.”

As part of the initiative, Coca-Cola teams are visiting counties to engage directly with consumers, inviting them to share their personal stories tied to the returnable glass bottle. In Embu town, one resident had the crowd in stitches as he recalled how Coca-Cola in a glass bottle played a pivotal role in his love story.

“I remember taking my wife out for dates, and Coca-Cola in a glass bottle was always on the table. She loved it, and those moments made us grow closer. You could say Coca-Cola helped me win her heart,” he joked, eliciting laughter and applause from the audience.

Such heartwarming anecdotes reflect the deep emotional connection Kenyans have with Coca-Cola. Many consumers have fond memories of family gatherings, celebrations, and small moments made special with the drink.

Another representative emphasized the campaign's goal of celebrating Coca-Cola's enduring legacy in Kenya. “For decades, the Coca-Cola glass bottle has evolved while remaining a symbol of joy an

Could Kenya’s Parliament Be Forced to Hire a Sign Language Interpreter?

Jacob Mbao, a popular philanthropist in Mbeere North, has sparked conversations about inclusivity in Kenya's National Assembly. Mbao, who is deaf, has garnered significant public support with his charitable works, raising the possibility of his election to Parliament. If elected, Mbao's presence could push Parliament to adopt full-time sign language interpretation for legislative sessions.

Currently, Kenya's National Assembly does not have permanent sign language interpreters, though the Constitution emphasizes inclusivity under Article 54. Efforts to strengthen accessibility for the deaf community have been ongoing. The Kenyan Sign Language Bill 2023, sponsored by MP Umulkher Harun Mohamed, advocates for better recognition, development, and mandatory use of Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) in institutions, including Parliament. The Bill proposes establishing a Kenyan Sign Language Council to regulate interpreter training and services, ensuring quality and accessibility for all deaf individuals.

Globally, countries like South Africa and the UK have set examples by integrating sign language into official proceedings and public services. Kenya has an opportunity to follow suit, especially with leaders like Mbao symbolizing the change needed for inclusive governance.

If Mbao’s election materializes, it would mark a historic step for Kenya, likely compelling the National Assembly to institutionalize sign language interpretation—a move in line with the country’s obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
