"In the past two decades China has invested unmatched resources into the African continent, exploiting underutilized opportunities and markets."

"As of December 2020, eighteen African countries are at risk for high debt distress, a figure that has doubled since 2013. Evidently, Chinese investment has come at a cost, and it’s one African countries must now pay back with interest."

Check out Katherine Jones' timely article on African debt to China.

“For a framework agreement [for peace] to be credible, it must not only mention the core issues but actually identify how each issue is to be resolved.”

"Although it is not yet clear what decision the World Bank will make, Tanzanian advocates for gender equality are paying close attention."

Check out guest writer Rayna Salam's article on Tanzania's pregnant schoolgirl ban, and the World Bank's response.

Tanzania’s law forbidding pregnant girls from attending school has been cause for global concern, but the World Bank has been the only development actor to respond publicly. Last January, the World…

Eighteen years ago today, American and Coalition troops raced across the Iraqi desert, capturing Baghdad in a matter of weeks. Was the justification for invasion sound?

With the release of several archival documents, there is now empirical evidence that the Bush Administration manipulated intelligence ex-post-facto to justify an invasion of Iraq, and that it may have gone even one step further by attempting to influence postwar investigations in order to obfuscate its complicity.

“Let’s keep in mind the fact that this war’s going to happen regardless of what [CURVEBALL] said or didn’t say. The Powers That Be probably aren’t terribly interested in whether [he] k…

"Does this argument hold up? Was 1/6 a blow to world democracy? Or, alternatively, was the successful transfer of power to Joe Biden despite the sitting president’s flagrant attempts to overturn America’s constitutional order a vindication of democracy?"

"The big question is whether Tunisia has moved on from these instabilities or is there risk of future instability in the region? Were the rights gained in the Tunisian Revolution truly worth it or is there another political leader on the horizon just waiting for the right moment to strike?"

"The abuses committed against Burma’s ethnic minorities cannot be disregarded when speaking on the coup. These abuses represent the extent of the military’s power in Burma and have inflated the egos of a violent and abusive leadership that will affect the entirety of the country, especially ethnic minorities."
