K's Quest

K's Quest Welcome to K's Quest - anchor and show-host Kanchan Wadi's new lifestyle video blog! I hosted my first TV show at age 22. Stay tuned :)
(1)

Fun, interesting content on beauty, fashion, wellness, travel and women-centric themes... I loved public speaking since school days and so, talking to the camera became a natural progression. It was a travel and food show on a popular channel - one of my most enjoyable experiences and a dream come true ! Since then I have had some very exciting stints in my career. I've been a visual merchandiser,

co-founder of multi designer stores, a tv channel producer and more. I started Bombay Unbounded - a video diary about Mumbai's events, people and places - two years ago (www.facebook.com/BombayUnbounded) . And now its time for K's Quest :)

My love for beauty, fashion and wellness is driven by two things - my acute sense of aesthetics and my passion for living to the hilt! I'm always aspiring to be the best version of myself - and don't fear making some mistakes in the process. Through K's Quest, you'll get to know about my favourite styles, fashion experiments and my favourite brands and designers. I will also share my skin and beauty routines and tips with you - things I've tried and found success with!

Default expression since childhood :) Have always loved to dream with my eyes open...and to drift off into my own wonderland! (Many years later I learnt that it actually helps to minutely visualise what the outcome of your goals would look and feel like.)

Getting a night of deep, restful and ample sleep is a truly blessing! The last few weeks have seen me through a phase of disrupted sleep, an obvious fallout of staying up with devices and late night snacking.
So I’ve decided to make a fresh start by following the simple steps of good sleep hygiene. Said a little prayer, used my favourite sweet basil essential oil to set the mood, picked up an easy read, wrote my to-do list for tomorrow, before putting my phone (and worries) away....bonne nuit everyone!

With more pertinent issues to worry and think about, to say the least, I hardly realised that it’s been 3 months since I shopped for non-essentials. And even while I do look forward to some retail therapy soon, I sense a definite shift towards classic, minimalist and sustainable fashion, chosen more judiciously than before! This, I hope, will be among the many positive changes post-covid times will usher in.
PS: my kind of summery Sunday/ brunch style!

A pic from less than 60 days ago that seems like another lifetime.
I could go through the craziest day knowing that there’s a fun evening plan with friends to look forward to! 💃
Miss the little joys of digging into my closet and deciding what to wear, and that anticipatory excitement before stepping out...can’t wait to have it all back soon, for myself and everyone else who thrives on it! 🦋

Loved this man a long long time.
Loved him for his chocolate boy looks (after watching Kabhi Kabhie and Karz), loved the charm and intensity with which he romanced his heroines on screen, loved the honesty he brought to his every performance.
And in the last few years, as his neighbour, I never let him know how excited I felt when he would greet me and chat about music, cinema and work. Our interaction was formal, but he infused it with his charm and energy. Even after he returned from his treatment in the US, the glow on his face and that commanding aura was intact. When our last conversation a month ago was cut short because the elevator stopped at my floor, Rishi ji said “ok let’s discuss this in detail when we meet next”.
Can’t stop thinking of today...a person whose warmth and care envelopes everyone she knows. Her entire life revolves around her family, specially her husband. Her stories of Bob (as she fondly called him) and their loving banter warmed my heart and made me believe in the kind of love that spans decades, and grows from romance to inseparable companionship.
Hard to accept he’s gone. Sad that I couldn’t pay my last respects. Will miss the man and the phenomenon of Indian Cinema for everything that he meant to me.

You know they are right when they say, “There are no coincidences! “
I had just entered an exciting new phase of my career when the lockdown happened. For many of you who might not know, after working in the media and fashion industry for many years, i had trained and begun practising as a professional counsellor. Like most other fields of work, counselling too works best when you’re face to face with a person - interacting, observing and responding!
We humans have built our lives and civilisations around social contact, and having to live without it during this lockdown (and possibly beyond, till this ̇d_19 pandemic becomes history) is indeed a challenge!
But this is also an opportunity for us to be tenacious and stay committed to our respective purposes.
I used to tell my friends how badly this world needs good counsellors :) How much truer is it now in the times of corona!
It is getting clearer that even after the lockdown, we must be prepared to embrace a new normal - in the way we work, study, travel and socialise.
I cannot possibly overemphasise the importance of holistic well-being, a mindset that can accept n adapt, and a spirit that remains undefeated during ‘testing times’!
I invite you to follow .0 , my brand new platform dedicated to mental health, wellness and insights from my counselling practice.
Send in your comments or DM me your questions, and I’ll try to have the answers ready in my upcoming videos.

And the highlight of today was the opportunity to address a group of organisational leaders and their families through a WEBINAR. Topic: How we can keep ourselves mentally and emotionally robust during this period of social distancing? Thank you YPO DELHI and members from who attended, asked pertinent questions and shared candid experiences of how they’re coping with the lockdown.

25/03/2020

Yes, this picture belies the gamut of emotions I’ve felt in the last 24 hours. One thing we humans (in fact all creatures) cherish above everything is our freedom, our autonomy. Having been in self-quarantine for 10 days already, news of a further 21-day lockdown and its implications was overwhelming at first. But knowing fully well how important this measure is for us all to defeat the spread of I have committed myself to making this time as constructive as possible, both individually and as a family. I’m reminded of these words by my spiritual mentor Dr Daisaku Ikeda - “Freedom doesn’t mean the absence of all restrictions. It means having unshakeable conviction in the face of any obstacle. That is true freedom.”
Will do my best to live up to these words. And savour all that there is - to love, learn, discover - both within me and in my immediate surroundings.
And lastly, isn’t it heartwarming to hear from so many friends and loved ones from across the world....who knew self-isolation could lead to a deeper connection 🤨!

Tell me how many of you, especially women, relate to this ....
I’ve never had a keen interest in financial planning and investments, often laughing it off as ‘I don’t understand this money and markets business’. This week, with more time at hand, I sat down and examined my investments, realising there were details I had overlooked and opportunities I had missed over the years. I’ve now decided that I won’t let it happen again because it’s just not a prudent thing to do.
And I urge each of you girls to start being ‘finance savvy’ - read up and acquaint yourself with the terms and concepts of money planning...have a long term outlook of spending, saving and investing wisely! Huge step towards self-empowerment I say!

I would say that “friends in faith” is a very special category of friends, and here are two of mine. It was largely because of the initial encouragement over long chats with that I started practising the profound life-philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism. Absolutely love her!

Hugs, gratitude and plans to meet again real soon !

Made it back just in time to witness a truly spectacular fashion event - the Blenders Pride 15th anniversary fashion tour! It began with paying tribute to the late and what followed was a pure visual treat with the leading names in Indian Fashion showcasing their collections in an unbroken sequence, with live singers and trapeze artists adding to the extravaganza! The audience applauded heartily when all these stalwarts of Indian fashion came up on stage together to take a well-deserved bow!

My last camel ride is a blurry childhood memory so I would say this is the first time I experienced what it’s like to ride this endearing, hardy and majestic being over undulating sand dunes. I thought it would be another pleasant, quintessentially touristic experience but it turned out to be more than that....
As the camel rode deeper into the desert, against the backdrop of the setting sun, i savoured a rare moment of calm and serenity. My only concern was the camel’s comfort but it’s owner assured me he was loved and taken care of, and fondly named ‘Honey Singh’.

Amidst some truly heart-warming, some hilarious and some ‘brand plug’ posts around V-day....on my part I’d like to share this brilliant poem I read recently. It unmistakably captures the truth about one’s relationship with the self...read it and tell me what you think...
THE MAN IN THE GLASS
By Peter Dale Wimbrow
When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that man has to say.
For it isn’t your father, or mother or wife,
Whose judgement upon you must pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life,
Is the one staring back from the glass....
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartache and tears,
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

Happy Lohri and Makar Sankranti to all my friends and family! I don’t get to celebrate most festivals the way I did earlier. On this day, we sang, danced to the beat of the drums, ate the yummiest sweets and stayed close to the bonfire to keep the winter chill away....

Hope we emerge from our current crises (forest fires, protests, inflation and more) to soon reap new harvests of joy and prosperity.

Seeing the first promo of a few months ago, i was immensely unsettled. A film about one of the realities of our world that I couldn’t bear to confront. A face and a life altered irreversibly, left to deal with the horrific reactions of a society that was objectifying women in the first place.
Can’t wait to watch the film that has made an impact on me even before I’ve seen it.
Always admired the courage and commitment with which
approaches her cinema.
I interviewed her for my YT channel at the time of her last release, but couldn’t upload it because we lost the audio file! Too bad....sound lost....but collective voice, found.
Best wishes to Meghna and team !

For me, one big aha moment of 2019 was to understand the difference between AMBITION and PURPOSE. In that instant I saw where my restlessness came from - an unsavoury mix of inadequacy and anxiety resulting from unfulfilled goals and ambitions.
In this new decade, not only am I committed to choosing purpose over ambition myself, I am eager to help whoever I can (both within and outside my work as a new counsellor) in changing their self defeating beliefs!
2020 looks exciting!
