In the latest event in The Broad’s signature series, The Un-Private Collection, the museum presents Christopher Wool in conversation with musician and artist Kim Gordon. Moderated by John Corbett (music curator and critic, author, and gallerist), this Un-Private Collection event will provide a platform for Wool and Gordon to share how their experiences with music, art, and other genres influenced how they approach their creative undertakings. During the 70s and 80s, Wool and Gordon spent formative years in the vibrant, gritty art and music scenes of Lower Manhattan and the East Village. Artists and performers of this era freely ventured to the edges of film, literature, art, music, and fashion to craft an intentionally “lo-fi” aesthetic that favored abandon and process in contrast to the commercialization that was expanding into the downtown art scene.

An afternoon conversation, co-presented with LACMA, featuring Suzanne Jackson (artist and founder of Gallery 32), Dale Davis (artist and co-founder of the influential Leimert Park-based Brockman Gallery), and Ian White (artist and son of Charles White), moderated by Sarah Loyer (curator of The Broad's presentation of Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power 1963-1983). Learn about their experiences and work promoting African American artists who are currently on view at The Broad and LACMA, as well as how the Black Arts Council at LACMA paved the way for seminal exhibitions of African American artists and the development of institutions like the California African American Museum.

The Broad presents a conversation, facilitated by Bridget R. Cooks (associate professor, African American history and art history, UC Irvine), with the organizing curators of Soul of a Nation, Tate Modern’s Mark Godfrey (senior curator, international art) and Zoe Whitley (curator, international art). Whitley and Godfrey will provide insights into the selection of artists in the galleries and the themes of the show, including questions of what it meant to be a Black artist during the time period and collective art making practices as alternatives to institutions.

his Saturday, June 13, The Egyptian has Etheria Film Night, which showcases the best and most innovative new horror, science fiction, fantasy, action and thriller films directed by women.
4:00pm: The North American premiere of Inner Demon, directed by Ursula Dabrowsky, about a woman who escapes abduction by a serial killer couple only to find herself in a house haunted by a malevolent spirit. Preceding it are the shorts Grim Grinning Ghost by Axelle Carolyn (from the upcoming Tales of Halloween anthology) and Coward by Karen Gillan.
Following the feature is a discussion with Dabrowsky and Fangoria's Rebekah McKendry. There is also a brief introduction and discussion between shorts with Carolyn, Gillan (Dr Who), and producer Mali Elfman.
8:00pm: Shorts competition. There is a cocktail party/reception from 6:00-7:30pm, and at 7:30 Amber Benson and Juliet Landau and Tricia Helfers (Battlestar Galactica) will present the Inspiration Award to Jane Espenson!!
