Greetings all - well its been a while - I hope everyone is keeping ok. It’s still busy for many of us even in isolation but I felt this was a good opportunity to re engage with this page! Here is an article and a point of view on a significant mural project that has just been completed in Accra Ghana. It includes elements of masquerade costume and is really very impressive. Enjoy the photos! http://artsghana.org/murals-accra-portray-rich-ga-adangbe-culture/

CARNIVAL GOING FORWARDS. What we need is a grass roots TEAM to get accredited event management training so we can run our own event. Many tales I have not told but being put down as a woman of colour from the community and being told categorically that the team I led at the time in 2015 would not be allowed to manage the event, was one of the most painful experiences I have ever gone through. The previous event managers left and the new ones were forced to abandon us citing the Safety Advisory Group Executive (in particular the police and council officers), as being the most hostile they have ever faced in 15 years of doing events. SO... Where are we now? I left SPACC in December 2015 after joining at a crisis point in September 2012... I assisted with the commission then left not wishing to be on the board of the new organization that would be newly formed and funded. In my time I tried my best to bring the event back to the community and create opportunities. I was saddened by the idea of our capable security teams demoted to stand on gates with no input into the security plans and with authorities having nothing good to say thus justifying most jobs going to not even Bristolians let alone us. I have made it known and lobbied for accredited event management training but it so far has fallen on deaf ears.... I wanted it to be a condition of releasing funding but cabinet member for equalities and culture refused... So... We must pick up where we left in 2012. We must walk now and not just talk. We must by any means necessary get upskilled with a piece of paper to enable us to keep our culture on the road. It's not about what anyone else's plans are for 2017 or 2018 it's about OUR PLANS... Get involved write to your local Councillor Carole Johnson councilor for Ashley now on the new board. The pressure must remain or the message is we are ok with another year off. Anyone up for forming a new event management team, get in touch, time is now. Decide what you want the history books to say and let's write them. https://bristol.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/256676/start_time/134000

'The protests have illuminated the deep economic, social and sometimes racial divide between mainland France and its overseas territories, which are the remnants of the French colonial empire.'

Presidential candidates scrambled to address the unrest as residents of the French territory in South America protest high crime and economic hardship.

And we can be great again
But living with the slave mentality
We just need to break the chains
If we come together we can make a change
Good vibez at Carnival is how we celebrate '
