In the early hours of today Zambia National Service (ZNS) in conjunction with Zambia Police (ZP) carried out an operation in PP- Zambia and retrieved over 20 thousands bags of meali-meal meant to be illegally sold in the night. .

It is sad to discover that there are some business men that are keeping bags of meali-meal in some warehouses in PP-Zambia for purposes of selling it illegally thereby negatively affecting mealie-meal prices.

We have therefore found a place where we will keep the meali-meal safe for now as ZNS and ZP continue to collect from all the remaining warehouses.

I therefore encourage our Chililabombwe business community to conduct business within the confines of the law for the well-being of everyone.

Chililabombwe, Chingola REA sign MOU on Rural electrification project.

Chililabombwe-15th November, 2023

Chililabombwe and Chingola Municipal Councils and the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) yesterday on 14th November 2023 signed a Memorandum of Understanding on rural electrification using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) .

Speaking during the event Chililabombwe District Commissioner Ms. Precious Njekwa said the signing of the MOU symbolises a shared vision for a brighter and more electirified future for rural communities in both districts.

The DC added that this is the correct time for REA to come on board and partner with government on CDF projects.

"Access to electricity is not only a matter of convenience but its a catalyst of economic empowerment , improved health care and enhanced education opportunities," she said.

And Chingola DC Mr. Raphael Chimupi said this partnership holds immerse potential to transform the lives of fellow citizens bringing light and hope to both Chingola and Chililabombwe communities.

" The vision of His Excellency the Republican President of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema is to ensure that no rural area goes without electricity, we need to work towards electrifying all rural areas," he said.

Meanwhile Chingola Mayor Mr Johnson Kang"ombe said the signing ceremony between
Chingola and REA is a significant milestone in the Councils joint commitment towards electrification of rural communities.

The Chingola Mayor said the project will be undertaken using part of the 2023 CDF allocation.

" The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has directed Local authorities to provide an allocation of one million kwacha (K1,000,000) from the 2023 CDF towards the REA project," the Chingola Mayor said.

Mr Kang'ombe further thanked REA for their unwavering support and partnership and for realising a shared vision of providing electricity to rural communities.

"Electricity plays a vital role in Social economic development of any society and it is a catalyst of projects aand enables growth of industries as well as enhances living standards of of communitiesand improbe quality of life for all," he added.

And Chililabombwe district CDFC chairperson Mr. Richard Kalumba said CDF has guidelines that the committee should prioritize rural electrification among other developmental agendas instituted.

"I find this ceremony as an important step towards development in both districts and it gives me pleasure to account for funds using CDF that will be allocated towards the joint program of rolling out rural electrification with REA," he said.

And REA Chief Executive Officer Eng. Linus K. Chanda said that electricity plays a pivotal role in the meaningful development of the nation.

Eng. Chanda added that as of 2018 only 8.1 % of rural areas where electrified hence the need and pronouncement by government to accelerate access to electricity in rural areas.

Chililabombwe Town Clerk Mrs Shilla Songolo signed the MOU alongside Council Advocate Mr Kennedy Sawanda.

LISTENING LEADERSHIP OF CHILILILABOMBWE

Marketeers In Kawama ward are happy that a market place has been found for them; and have appealed to the District leadership to help them with a market shelter and clean water.

Shortly after their appeal Hon. Paul CC Kabuswe and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Hon Witola sunk a borehole as an immediate measure for the market to have a clean source of water which will also aid in the construction of the toilets at the site.

Yesterday, I took time to Reunite with Residents, both former and still living within Chililabombwe.

We called this, THE CHILILABOMBWE GRAND REUNION.

It was indeed a joyous and memorable day as we met with a lot of old friends and relived through our old memories, in stories and songs.

Before we reconvened for a few drinks, dances and stories, we took time to visit the Kakoso Level 2 Hospital, and Donated a few items as a way of giving back to the community which shaped us.

Thereafter, we took time to visit the first ever Level 1 District Hospital, to see how it is developing. My friends who accompanied me can agree that it will begin operations soon.

We also visited ONE WAY MISSION Orphanage to donate some assorted items, and this was also in a bid to give back to the community. My friends and I agreed that as a team, we shall adopt some children from this orphanage, which we shall sponsor throughout their academic life.

The true art of a leader is to bring people together, and I am glad I was able to do this, to bring people from all walks of life back together in Chililabombwe to relive our memories together. We intend to do this every year in the INDEPENDENCE WEEK.

The Chililabombwe Grand Reunion Group will serve as a conduit through which we can bring our minds together as people and strategize on better ways to make Chililabombwe a better place.

Today we were honored to receive the Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Augustine Kasongo in our district who came to commission two Skip Trucks and five Skip bins purchased by the Chililabombwe Municipal Council.

A clean, green & healthy environment is very necessary for the proper functioning of any community.

Thank you to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for purchasing such essential equipment, which has been significantly supplemented by a skip truck and skip bin by the Chililabombwe Municipal Council.

This development will guarantee a cleaner Chililabombwe District.

I therefore call upon chililabombwe residents to use these bins for the intended purpose so that we promote a healthier, greener and cleaner chililabombwe.

We are glad to note that despite the tight fiscal space in our budget, your government is undertaking rehabilitation roads and other infrastructure projects across the country.

The Public Private Partnership (PPP) model we have adopted is equally yielding desired results. This has also reduced pressure on the national treasury as these projects are being financed by the private sector.

We encourage local companies to bid for some of these projects being undertaken. We believe there will be sizeable number of jobs that will be created during the construction periods in different parts of the country.

Our call to those undertaking these projects is to prioritise quality works that will last for a long time. It is disappointing that some of the dilapidated roads and other infrastructure around the country were recently done at very high cost.
