The second press of - Don’t Wanna Dance Because I’m Told To LP is up on the site now! For those who missed it the first time around, The Roxies are a band from Berlin, their singer Matthew is originally from Yorkshire, England. He met the rest of the band through a flyer at a Kreuzberg dive bar in 2018. Since then they’ve been writing songs and putting their different musical backgrounds together, playing loud from inside an ex-launderette in one of Berlin’s backyards. Musically drawing influences from ’77 Punk Rock, Indie, Garage, Post Punk, Power Pop, ... The Roxies are all about spreading the love and playing energetic fun shows.

2019 they self-released their debut single “The Roxies Are Coming”. After a mini-tour in Northern England in 2020 they recorded their first full-length album “Don’t Wanna Dance Because I’m Told To”. The title quotes the first line of the opening song of the record. The album has a real feel of a band putting down everything that they have: Songs range from a Punk Rock belter to a Pop grower to a New Wave groover. Lyrics that focus on contemporary life, personal demons, social and political problems, whilst also getting ready for a party – what more do you need for a jam-packed introduction of a band?

Monday bump! De Rodillas - Implacable 7” came out last Friday. You can stream and/or purchase via the link in our bio or grab one at their release show tonight in Pittsburgh.

De Rodillas is a hardcore punk band from Pittsburgh PA. Fronted by a formerly undocumented Mexican immigrant, the band’s songs explore political topics from a personal perspective, and are steeped in raw, visceral emotion. Slathered in feedback, anchored by a rapid rhythm section and propelled by inventive riffing that pulls equally from 80s hardcore classics and modern inspirations. The band paints with an extreme but inventive sonic template that serves to imbue the lyrics with an increased sense of urgency.

This Trondheim-based Swedish/Norwegian band was formed under the pandemic lockdowns in 2020. Swedish singer Sushila was working in Trondheim (NO) at the time and had been talking for a couple of years with friend and bass guitarist Karl-Martin about starting to make music together. The lockdowns provided the time to start working on ideas, and when restrictions loosened up, some new songs started to see the light. They got friends and fellow punk rockers Eskild (guitar), Thor-Inge (guitar), and Andreas “Puppy” to join the lineup in the band Slitasje (which means “wear and tear” in Norwegian).

With a background in bands like ALLVARET (SE), NSB (NO), Anti-lam front (NO), CASTRO (NO), The School (NO), and more between the five, they´ve got some steady footing in the Scandinavian punk rock scene. With influences from all all over these guys have come together in a band that doesn’t sound like any of their other bands.

“The Body Remembers” LPs have arrived. Limited to 197 on neon violet vinyl.

Exedo is a latin word meaning to eat up, devour, or consume. These acts, by self or others, are the genesis of themes for Exedo’s songs. The Chicago band explores lyrical subjects like wasteful resource consumption, betrayal by one’s own body as it undergoes aging and illness, and the devouring void of absence and loss. Exedo also consumes a range of musical influences from post punk and new wave, to 90s alternative, surf instrumentals, and a broad spectrum of DIY punk. The band digests this meal slowly, focusing on the sonic and stylistic through lines from one scene and era to the next, and crafting their songs layer by layer.

I love this record to death. I hope you enjoy it too. Available for “preorder” now (these are shipping out early!)

“The Body Remembers” LP will be out on June 28th. This Chicago band plays haunting and beautiful post punk that I can’t get enough of. Members play in a lot of different bands, including quite a few that I’ve previously released. But you can do your own digging on that one.

is also releasing their debut 12” called “Mandag Morgon” on June 21st. This Swedish/Norwegian band plays a brand of melodic punk that is really difficult to categorize. Members of Dirt Cult alum for those keeping score.

Spent most of last week out in New York celebrating the 22nd anniversary. It was awesome to catch up with friends, most of whom I haven’t seen since before the pandemic. Low Culture played a set (thanks from and for filling in!) and came home with a suitcase full of exclusively small t-shirts. If you want one, hit me up and I’ll send it for the price of shipping.
