We've come to the end of our board's individual presentations. Lastly, we want you to meet our editor: Catarina!🤩

“Hi everybody, I’m Catarina. I am one of the Editors of this year's Journal, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this amazing team. I am eager to read all the pieces within my function and learn more and more about Neuroscience. I am originally from Brazil and moving to the Netherlands was a challenge, but a super nice one! My hobbies include cooking (COVID helped my skills), running, listening to a lot of music, and being surrounded by my friends as much as I can. A fun fact is that I am a musical expert so if you ever want to challenge me, put some random songs and I will be able to tell from which Musical it is! I hope you enjoy reading this Journal as much as I’m enjoying building it.”

Here we go with designer number two: Chanel! 🤩

"Hey everyone! My name is Chanel and I’m the second person in the design team of this years board. This means that I can get very creative with our favorite topic: neuroscience. Besides, I get the opportunity to discover drawing on a computer which turns out to be really cool. Other then the journal I like to fill my time with my friends or doing some out of the ordinary project, like homeschooling myself in finance or something very relaxing like taking care of all my plants. I’m looking forward to the end products of this year, they will be awesome!"

The other half of PR is our dear Jana. Besides PR, she is one of our editor. Get ready to get to know Jana! 🤩

“Hi, my name is Jana and I am looking forward to being an Editor and PR co-manager for the Journal this upcoming year. During this time I will review the content to be published, whilst maintaining good relations with our sponsors. In my free time I like to cook, paint, and read. Last year I realised that I almost exclusively read biographies: apparently I love to read about other people’s lives (though this might be a side effect of lockdowns). Another hobby of mine is hiking, though I was slightly scared on a hiking trip in Australia when a wombat pi**ed in my sleeping bag the first night...”

Tonight we would like to introduce Sara, who is one of our Design members! 🤩

“Hi all, I’m Sara. As a member of the design team, I have a great opportunity to learn something new and to embrace the more creative part of me. Apart from being fascinated with the brain and its remarkable cognitive capacity, my hobbies include modeling, reading, and spending time with friends (ideally over some delicious food). Fun fact about me: I have a special talent for recognizing faces, I always know the actor in the movie and where he had acted before. I am very excited to be a part of this awesome team and to create two issues of this year's Journal for you!”

Here we go with another one! Haydn, one of our editors and also into the PR of the journal! 🤩

“Hi my name is Haydn and I am this year's Editor and PR for the Journal of Neuroscience. It's amazing that, as a group, we can share ideas through the medium of a journal to bring to light all the outstanding work that is done within this field. I am originally from the UK and have enjoyed moving away and recommend it to everyone. Outside of academics I am a very active and sporty person and very social, friendship is something I value the most. I used to really enjoy going clubbing and to festivals. I'm hoping that very soon we can have our social lives back!"

This evening we would like you to meet our editor Lotte, who is also responsible for the Journal's finance! 🤩

“Hi! I’m Lotte and I’m an editor of this year’s journal board. I’m super excited to be part of this amazing journal and to create two fascinating issues. Apart from my interest in neuroscience, I like playing sports which perfectly balances out my guilty pleasure: chocolate. I also love cooking, especially while dancing and singing to music. During my free time, I also read a lot of books. I really hope you will enjoy the coming journal issues!”

Today we would like to introduce you to our Secretary Vera! 🤩

“Hi! I’m Vera and I’m the secretary of this year’s editorial board. I’m very excited to contribute to two amazing new issues of the Journal of Neuroscience & Cognition this year! Whenever I’m not busy with the Journal or studying the brain, I like to read books, do yoga and go on long walks in nature. I also love to embroider and to create collage art. However, currently, I spend a lot of (too much?) time on Netflix rewatching Breaking Bad for the 5th time... I blame lockdown! Anyway, I truly hope you enjoy this year’s issues of the Journal!”

We are excited to introduce our new board in the following weeks, starting with our Chief Editor Nina! 🤩

“Hi everyone, I’m Nina and I will be the editor in chief of the Journal of N&C for the coming year! I’m truly happy to have the opportunity to challenge myself within this position, and to come up with two fascinating and creative journals! Besides my interests in social neuroscience, I really enjoy music: by either listening to it at a festival or making some myself with my guitar. When I’m tired because of a long day behind my computer screen, I give in to one of my guilty pleasures: rewatching friends over and over again! But I certainly can’t wait until it is possible to finish the day at a sunny terrace with a specialty beer in my hands!”

Lastly, we want you to meet our second Design member from the journal: Esmée! ✨

"It has been always extremely fascinating to me how we know so much of the brain- but still so little. It really captures the complexity of how the brain works and how it is responsible for everything we are. By working together with people with a different background, we are able to accomplish way more than we would on our own. I am proud that I can be a part of this field and help adding more pieces to the puzzle that is the brain."

We are introducing one of our Design members of the board: Oxana ✨

‘The human brain has always been very interesting to me and attending lectures and reading several scientific books of famous neurobiologists, like Dick Swaab and Eric Kandel, allowed this interest to become a real passion. I think it is really fascinating how different cellular structures, which make up our brain, can give rise to such a complex behaviour. In order to investigate the brain thoroughly molecular biologists, clinicians, and psychologists work together to unravel all the mysteries of this precious organ. Joining the board of the journal of Neuroscience and Cognition allows me to join in a comparable interdisciplinary team. I think the journal is a great way for master students
to broaden their horizons of ongoing neuroscience research in Utrecht and abroad; something which I'd love to contribute to.'

This evening we are introducing to you our last editor: Alexandra ✨

“I find it interesting to investigate the complexity of Neuroscience from multiple disciplines; not only to know how the nervous system works, but also to investigate different aspects of the system, like the molecular processes that contribute to the working of the nervous system and the observed behaviour that is visible. I like how every discipline has a voice of their own, but more importantly, how they are all connected and can complement each other. I love being able to participate in the journal where Neuroscience and Cognition students, with many different educational backgrounds can connect, learn and complement each other. It’s a great platform to share our expertise with each other and unravel the complexity of Neuroscience together”

It’s been a while, but today we want you to meet one of our editors: Dasha! ✨

'As a medical doctor in training with an interest in research, I aspire to help patients and to gather more knowledge about their underlying disease. Neurology has caught my particular interest, since the variable expression of a neurological disease has a great impact on people’s lives. The master Neuroscience and Cognition allows me to gain more scientific knowledge in my favourite field of research, which hopefully will enable me to combine both clinical practise and research in the future. Joining the board of the journal of Neuroscience and Cognition means to me taking part in a scientific community which shares important results, ideas and opinions, which I think is indispensable for practising good research.'

We would like you to introduce you all to one of our editors of the board! Meet: Alberto! ✨

'Neuroscience is a fast moving field and new groundbreaking discoveries are published every other month. One of the peculiarities of neuroscience is its being multifaceted; here biologists, physicists, psychologists, medical doctors and physiologists meet to study the organ defined by many as the most complex. This is what fascinates me most about research in neuroscience, combining the efforts of different experts with a common goal.’

Dear Neuroscience and Cognition students,

As you all know, the board of Journal of Neuroscience and Cognition is now very busy collecting content for the first issue of the 2019-2020 journal. We already have some great contributors, for which we are very thankful. However, we can still use some interesting content. So if you have a spare article (both review article and research articles are welcome), or if you have a great idea/piece/etc. to write something about, please contact us here or via [email protected]. Either way this will be a valuable addition to your CV.

We are also looking for some students who would like to be a reviewer for one of the articles. This only takes few hours in total, so if you would like to do this, please send an email to [email protected]!

For more information we direct you to our website: http://journal.neuroscience-cognition.org/. Here you can find the guidelines and more information about being a contributor. Or send us an email!

We would like to introduce you to our P&R and editor: Karis! ✨

“I have experienced first-hand the effects psychiatric disorders can have on an individual and those around them. This was a huge aspect as to why I chose to pursue a master’s in Neuroscience and Cognition. Joining the journal was a great way to meet fellow students from various bachelor backgrounds, and as a group has given us the opportunity to work together and combine ideas, whilst also gaining an understanding of relevant topics from many different perspectives. Which will be a key aspect of working in a research environment in the future!”
