“Hand Crafted Audio” is what we specialize in. You wouldn’t have an algorithm research, script, and voice your podcast. Why trust your podcast mixing and editing to an algorithm?

Look for our summer specials beginning in a few weeks! The deals will be hotter than the temps in the PNW! 🔥😳

"I'm getting ready to record my first podcast. What mic should I use?"

This question comes up all the time. Like many things in life, there is no one correct answer. Instead of looking to random people on social media for a specific mic recommendation, consider the following:

• The microphone you use should ideally complement the tone of your voice. Just as an artist chooses a different brush for painting different things, a mic can enhance or detract from your natural voice.

• If your voice is higher in pitch, or thinner sounding, a mic with a larger diaphragm may be more complimentary. Why? A larger diaphragm mic tend to have better low frequency response, and be less sensitive to high frequencies. Examples: Shure SM-7b, EV RE-20, Heil PR-40.

• A deeper or huskier voice can be complimented with a smaller diaphragm mic. Less mass on the diaphragm = more responsive to higher frequencies. Examples: AT 2020, Shure SM-58.

• Another thing to consider is mic sensitivity. There is a lot of talk of "Do I need a Cloudlifter or FET Head to use this mic?" online. Larger diaphragm mics (SM-7, I'm looking at you...) typically need more clean gain from the preamp/interface in order to produce a good signal.

• Remember: a signal chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Don't blow all your budget on a $350 mic if you know that you'll be connecting it to a $100 interface with only 55 dB of gain.
..If at this point you're thinking to yourself "Whoa! This is getting way to techy for me!", just drop me a DM and we can discuss what mic might be best for YOUR needs.

We're here to not only provide professional editing, but to partner with our clients to help them create a better sounding product, from beginning to end. Let us know how we can help!

I came across this video from some years ago of the trailer for a short film I recorded the score for with Dan Hoerner (Sunny Day Real Estate, Dashboard Confessional). Fun with Dan and an Ebow!

We did the post-production for the trailer for the award-winning short film, Someone & Someone, Inc.
