July felt like forever, particularly the last two weeks. I thought for sure I missed the deadline for this month’s playlist but lo-and-behold today is only August 4. My first official month of summer was split between the usual hip-hop fair (really dug the new ian track and the Baby Osamaa tape) and some slower, trippier shoegaze/trip-hop/downtempo stuff which I dove into on account of the label’s ucpoming release of the debut Forgotten Warmth Becomes Dust EP. Highlights from this latter camp include Autumn’s Grey Solace, a Florida twopiece that’s been putting out “ethereal wave” music since the start of the millenia, and the new single from Chanel Beads collaborator Colle. I’ll reserve one last shoutout for a tape that came out a few months back but I just discovered recently, ‘Black Life, Red Planet’ by Dirty Bird (aka gum.mp3). It’s an epic speed run through 30 years of Black dance music that’s incredibly deep and rewards repeat listens. Have a great August everyone, enjoy! ✌🏻

This month we have a special edition of the WILTLM playlist in celebration of the 1-year anniversary of ‘drum + voice’ by Nicholas. Big Tent’s third release is a sublimely minimalist indie pop-tronica record that deals with growing up, growing apart, and becoming wiser in the process. Below is a quote from Nicholas about the music he listened to last month.

“This playlist is a pink strand of cotton candy melting on my tongue until I’m dizzy and heat sick. Each of these 15 songs is a sunset I collected over the month of June and together they make one long slow wine in the Hollywood Carnaval parade.”

Last night on the way home from the function my friend asked me if I found these playlists hard to put together. The answer is no, I always know what I want, when I want it, and in exactly what amount. I'm a Libra, I don't get stressed about that kinda stuff, decisions come easy to me.

Star sign jokes aside, I'm proud to present this month's playlist which is a slick 12 tracks (the perfect length for a playlist imo). I've got some Jessica Pratt on there, I've got some Nettspend on there, I've got some Tinashe on there, I'm a multi-faceted individual what can I say. If you can only check out one track this month please make it DAMN I FEEL LIKE HATIN by Chris Moon and Fatblackbastard, a guaranteed mood brightener (despite the title). hi y’all. feeling very blessed to get a celebrity shot on wiltlm after release week. i can’t thank nick enough for the support getting sacrilege out ♥️ my music consumption usually dips when making tunes, so i mostly blasted my wips on this month. the few songs which broke through my echo chamber are included here. the inspiration from nick is clear in the overlap, but shye01, b4u, and quadeca have me feeling competitive lately happy to report they’ve inspired some new sounds as well. harto, bladee, and drizzy are the original inspos and have been keeping me grounded. please listen to jokes up and like this with heavy weights in hand for the full experience and congrats to my brother on the incredible release. hope y’all enjoy and stay tuned for more in ‘24.

Big Tent Records is proud to announce the release of “Sacrilege,” the debut single by New York City-based artist and ghost in the machine for francis.

Brewed in the backstream of the internet’s decontextualized cultural goo, “Sacrilege” is a twisted love song for the situationship era, a nervy synth bop about wanting to be alone and wanting someone to be alone with. Pulling equally from offbeat alt-folk, iced-out cloud rap and sugary club edits, for francis crafts a distinct pop sound that, for all its wink-and-nudge, remains refreshingly earnest and open.

🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 A blessed Sunday to all, I hope everyone had a lovely March and a lovely Easter (if you celebrated). Lots of good music last month, Schoolboy Q dropped what might be his best album to date, Mike teamed with Tony Seltzer to release an eye-opening collab tape, and my friend Eileen Allway put out her beautiful debut album ‘Love Water’. There are tracks from each on this month’s playlist but I suggest you check them all out in full as well. My friend Dan introduced me to the excellent Chanel Beads (now my most anticipated debut of the year), I went spelunking in the Philly underground (“FEELINZ” “I Can’t Lie…”), and Spotify demonetized a bunch of great music (“Original” “Trial & Error”). Rounding out the playlist are a couple more hip-hop tracks and I guess what you’d call hyperpop? I don’t know, we’ve run out of good descriptors for what people are making these days. It’s amazing the difference an extra day makes. Feb felt about as long as Jan and its playlist is even longer, 13 tracks this time. Thematically it’s a bit all over the place but there is a proclivity for hip-hop (7 of the 12 tracks) and a pair of songs from the ML Buch universe (I heard “Edge Of The Ocean” during her ODYXXEY mix). I have to shout out CARBIKE and hazzard for releasing a couple of excellent singles, as well as the homie and his imprint for putting me on to sahn. Plus there’s some Actress. Enjoy! Another month, another slate of new songs. While September’s list features fewer tracks than previous installments it’s just as long timewise. A decent chunk of that can be attributed to the inclusion of ’s epic eight minute “A Coin in Nine Hands” from the deluxe edition of his sophomore album ‘Sirens’. On the other end of the spectrum is ’ all too brief party drug anthem “HOLDON”, and rounding out my highlights for the month is the softly lilting “What Would I Do” from Dallas-based songwriter . Of course everything on the playlist is excellent (in my opinion) and you can listen to it all at the link in my bio. And shouts out to and my cousin for putting some of these songs on my radar. Our latest release is a stunning indie pop-r&b album from singer-songwriter . I fell in love with this record for its delicate songwriting about love and relationships as well as its sparse, synthetic production, if you're a fan of Blood Orange and The Postal Service I highly suggest checking it out! A big thank you to all the folks who helped bring this project to life and of course to Nicholas for entrusting Big Tent with his music. Congratulations man! It's finally here!
