Francis is being surrendered to rescue due to his former home having no time for him. He has had two homes in his 1.5 years so far and he is looking for a forever now. Francis is your typical lovable goofy energetic young boxer looking for a home that has the time to dedicate to all the exercise a young boxer needs. He is dog friendly, great with everyone he meets, and would love a home either with another dog or with a mom or dad that is home a lot. No kids under 7 just because of his energy level. If interested, please contact your coordinator or apply through our website.

This afternoon (our deputy) Greg was patrolling the South Side of Youngstown when he came upon a trash bag in the road near where Hudson Ave and St Louis Ave meet. He stopped to investigate since the bag was out in the street. The bag already had a small hole in it, so he ripped it open wider and found a 10-12 week old puppy ……deceased.

Greg immediately brought him back to the pound and laid him down in our necropsy room. I went back to see him in disbelief that we had found another dead puppy. (This is the second in approx 2 weeks.)

His little body was mostly frozen with ice stuck to one side of his face. His collar looked big-possibly indicating that he was no longer the healthy weight that he once was. This beautiful baby boy looked so peaceful laying just like he would have -had he just fallen asleep.

Nicole found him a baby boy blanket covered in baseballs and Greg and I wrapped him in it. We named him Slugger. Something about this boy just broke us that much more.

The ignorance and the heartlessness in our community is completely out of control. Please spay and neuter your dogs. Too many puppies and adults are ending up in the wrong hands.

This little guy could have been someone’s everything. He could have had an amazing life. Someone would have loved him like he deserved to be loved.

Rest in peace little Slugger. We are so sorry no one helped you before it was too late. -Megan

TO BE KILLED - 2/19/2022

**** A $500 STIPEND WILL BE OFFERED TO THE NEW HOPE PARTNER THAT PULLS ONYX ****

TREMBLING, SHAKING, JUST OVER A YEAR OLD, GOOD WITH THE CHILD HE LIVED WITH, ONYX IS FACING DEATH AT THE ACC! Thrown out because he chewed things, Onyx’s human didn’t socialize him well. Now that she wants to be rid of him, his chances of making out of this kill shelter are slim because he is so scared at the ACC. Onyx needs guidance and training from an experienced owner. We don’t know if his previous owner had taken any effort to train him. Please help Onyx find his miracle, he is so scared. All he needs is an experienced dog person who can guide him and help him through his issues. Please get Onyx seen to help him.

ONYX@MANHATTAN ACC
Onyx ID #135053, 1 year 8 months old, 83 lbs
Large Mixed Breed, BLACK unaltered male
Came into shelter as a Owner Surrender
Zip Code: NEW YORK NY 10002
Medical Behavior Evaluation: 4. Orange
Behavior Assessment Rating: NHO

PET PROFILE:
My health has been checked.
My vaccinations are up to date.
My worming is up to date.
I have been microchipped.

Onyx is on emergency placement for behavioral reasons. He has been observed to growl at strangers who approach his kennel and can only be handled by limited staff. Medically, Onyx is apparently healthy.

Due to the detailed behavior issues, this animal is only available for foster/adoption through one of ACC's New Hope Partners. If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please fill out the pre-screener form. This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form. Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response.

Onyx was surrendered to the care center by his owner due to his destructive behavior. He is reported to destroy furniture when left home alone. He was respectful of the eleven-year-old in the home but would growl when strangers approach him. Onyx has displayed this behavior in the care center as well. When handlers approach him in the kennel he will growl. He can be walked by select handlers but will not allow touch. While with his previous owner, Onyx bit another dog. The owner had to pry his mouth open in order to get Onyx to release the other dog. We recommend that Onyx goes to a home without any other pets. He should be in an adult-only, experienced household that will provide Onyx with the time and space needed to acclimate.
