South Sudan's 🇸🇸 Sudd wetland is the largest in Africa, and one of the largest in the world. The wetland is located on the White Nile(the one originating from Lake Victoria) and was the barrier that prevented early European Explorers from entering further inland in search for the Nile's source, which remained a mystery for a long time.

Local Cinema in the Early 80s/ 90s

Five decade ago very few middle - class families have access to black and white television in their homes.

Children from vulnerable background hardly see the world on television but rather snitch to local Cinemas to watch movies of Rambo's, Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris etc.

Africa was best known for our own folk and tale stories , theatres and village wrestling fights.

Africa now loosing it's rich cultural heritage and traditions since the invasion of colonialism and their philosophy.

The moral values and memories are dished away from us.

Africa is the cradle of mankind and civilization but western intervention has continue to revolutionalize and pollutes the fresh born brains of the current millennium.

Origin of the Name Somali

The earliest common ancestor of various Somali clans is known as Irir Samaale, and he is widely considered to be the inspiration for the ethnonym Somali. It is believed that the word "Somali" comes from the two syllables "soo" and "maal," which combined mean "go and milk," alluding to the pervasive pastoralism of the Somali people. Instead, the Arabic word for "wealthy" (dhawamaal) is said to be where the word Somali originates from, a possible allusion to the affluence of animals in Somalia.

The northern coast of Somalia, known as Berbera at the time due to the presence of "Berber" (Cush*tic) people, was known as Po-pa-li in an ancient Chinese record from the 9th century. Yet, the sobriquet Somali was first used in a literary context in the 15th century. The Abyssinian Emperor commissioned a member of his court to write a hymn honoring a military victory over the Sultan of Ifat's namesake forces during the conflicts between the Ifat Sultanate in Zeila and the Solomonic Kingdom.

After Ethiopia successfully resisted colonial conquest in 1896, at the famous Battle of Adwa, it inspired many African nations to seek their independence. Despite Marcus Garvey creating the Pan African Flag of Red, black and green, newly independent nations opted for the Ethiopian colours of green, yellow, and red for their flags.

The only African countries using the Marcus Garvey's Pan African colours are Libya 🇱🇾, Kenya 🇰🇪, South Sudan 🇸🇸 and Malawi 🇲🇼.

NRA holds stakeholder discussions with advertising partners

The National Roads Authority (NRA) on Thursday held a stakeholder engagement with advertising and maintenance partners on the beautification of the 22km Bertil Harding Highway (currently under construction).

The meeting organised by the NRA was aimed at engaging the maintenance partners, advertising agencies, and GSM operators to beautify and make the Bertil Harding Highway a well-maintained and attractive highway

The Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA), Mr. Ousman Sanyang outlined the importance of this meeting, saying that the Bertil Harding Highway is a new piece of infrastructure in the country that needs good advertising and maintenance partners to make it more beautiful, attractive and well maintained.

He also acknowledged the concerns raised by the stakeholders concerning the allocation of billboards while promising to improve on NRA regulations and standardisation of all new billboards along the newly built infrastructure.

Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Deputy Managing Director, NRA, assured the partners that the Authority will not compromise the standards and regulations on the allocation of the billboards.

According to him, the NRA wants to change the look of the country, starting with the Bertil Harding Highway Road.

For his part, George Jatta, Technical Director, NRA also informed the stakeholders that the Bertil Harding Highway is not the only area for advertising and beautification, but also the OIC 50km roads currently under construction, which also have streetlight poles which could be used for advertisement as well.
