So, I get out of work around 430 yesterday , go home quickly cook dinner for kids RUSH to US RENAL DIALYSIS to be with my husband . Walk in and guess what ?They had been taking his blood pressure on the arm with the PICC line. The nurse was like his blood pressure is 157/125 and his heart rate is 118 . WTF man! I was very disappointed. I had Golden Palms document and call his doctor and took a photo of his arm. When I got to US RENAL in San Benito I hadn’t noticed the arm the blood pressure cuff was on because my husband covers himself up because he gets cold. He had about an hour left of dialysis. Then the nurse and I had questions over where he was going to get his antibiotic . It took a little while to sort it out. While this was going on his blood pressures where high along with his heart rate. When I did notice the light in my head went off and told them “ to my understanding you are NOT supposed to take blood pressure on that arm” so they change it to his other arm. The tech stated “ well that arm is restricted because that’s the arm they are going to use for his access . I told her no and whoever retagged him was an idiot cuz it should have been his pick line arm. As EMS walked out of buildingwith my husband he stated ,” Mam restricted armbands are not that color it is an allergy band and all it has says isTrammadol . I was going to tell her that but I didn’t want to say anything. “ . He also got MRSA on his dialysis port which caused endocarditis . The reason he has the PICC line and having to do 5 weeks of antibiotics. There should be stricter regulations for the dialysis centers when it comes to infection control, dressing for ports and mandatory competency training for staff . What I have seen some staff lose nursing skills or need a refresher course on the things they will encounter.
