It is such an honour to receive a 2024 CANADIAN SCREEN MUSIC AWARD (CASMA) nomination in the category of Best Original Score for Games and Interactive media alongside La-Nai Gabriel for "Where the Poppies Blow: The Life and Lessons of John McCrae"!

"Where the Poppies Blow" is an interactive graphic novel from TEACH Magazine, designed for the classroom setting with videos, historical photos, lesson plans, and additional content to immerse students in the story behind one of history’s most famous poems, “In Flanders Fields”!

On a spring day in 1915, amid the battle-scarred fields of Flanders, Belgium, John McCrae was struck by the sight of poppies blooming over the graves of his fallen comrades. It moved him so deeply that he penned “In Flanders Fields”. A dedicated army doctor, John witnessed the horrors of war firsthand as he worked tirelessly to treat wounded soldiers. Readers are invited to follow McCrae on his journey, from small-town Ontario to some of the toughest battle zones of the First World War. Although John never made it home, his poem and the red poppy became an enduring symbol of remembrance.

Thank you to Wili Liberman and Lisa Tran from TEACH, Diane Vallesteros for music editing assistance, and to the Screen Composers Guild of Canada jury of colleagues and peers who evaluated and selected our project for this honour!

Congratulations to fellow nominees Amanda Cawley and Maxime Goulet - I'm looking forward to celebrating with you on September 25th! 🎉

Perelman teachers are making headlines!

Lauren Almond, fourth grade teacher extraordinaire, believes in empowering students through financial literacy. When thinking about what schools of the future will look like, it’s hard to imagine them without grades, exams, or even subjects.
