“Willow: House of Griots” had its first stage reading of episode 1-4 recently. This project has been a decade in the making and we’re inching closer and closer to sharing the series with everyone. Dear me, dear you, dear us,
We did it. It’s taken a week to process but here we are - post successful Off-Broadway run. We had two completely sold out nights and three incredibly powerful shows.
The girl that has always found peace in dancing, a home on stage and a family in theater grew up and made her dreams come true.
7 days in a blackbox theater working with some of the most wonderful people. They were long days but each time curtain went up, we created magic. It was magic.
“On Behalf of Us” was a manifestation of the values and expansive imagination I hold and that deaf&mumbles holds. From the stage crew, to the production team, to the audience, it was for, by and with Black and Brown artists. I cried hearing multiple languages on stage. I cried listening to Bangladeshi women speak about women empowerment. I cried looking out into the audience connecting with different parts of themselves. I loved every moment of it.

This is just the beginning of what can happen when we allow our imaginations to run free unhindered by societal limitations because we come together in collective power.

I’m a dancer, writer, producer and director. I love reading just as much as I love sitting on my couch watching TV for hours.
Born and bred Queens, New Yorker. Proud Bangladeshi.
Almost everything I make is meant to reflect the multicultural, multilingual world I grew up in. But I don’t want my reference point to be the only one I work and create with.
I love taking the extraordinary visions shared with me by screen writers, play wrights, choreographers and providing the resources, game plan and ex*****on to make them a reality.
There’s room for all of our stories. I want the world to hear them, see them and experience them.
