UPDATE: Sheriff Fridley said a woman called 911 and reported that a vehicle was stuck in high water in the Pax area.

She told dispatchers her child was in the vehicle and she was unable to locate the child.

Fayette Co. Swift Water Rescue and deputies are on scene.

Packs Branch Rd. and Paint Creek Rd. are both closed for high water.

BREAKING: 11-month-old swept away by floodwater along Paint Creek in the Pax area of Fayette County. Rescue boats are out searching for the child. The incident happened just before 9 a.m. Divers are on scene but officials say the water is very muddy and swift. DNR, Fayette County Deputies, Beckley-Raleigh EMS are all on scene along with fire and rescue crews. We should have an update with more information soon.

The Logan Resource Center, located at the old 84 Lumber location at Peach Creek, and Cora Fire Department Station warming centers are open. Anyone needing assistance with transportation to those centers please contact Logan EOC at 304-752-7662 or 911 for help.

Middle section of the Donald M. Legg bridge being lowered slowly onto barges.

The bridge connected I-64 across the Kanawha for 60 years but today the 1,720,000 pound middle section will be hauled off for recycling.

The Nitro Memorial WWI bridge now takes its place.

UPDATE: Police have identified Elizabeth Reed of Hinton W.Va. as the woman who stole and drove a Cedar Grove Ambulance into the Kanawha River.

Police say Reed was located this morning by a search and rescue team and pronounced dead.

Reed was a patient at CAMC general according to a release.

Emergency crews are pulling the ambulance from the Kanawha River.

According to a Metro 911 supervisor, it was reported a woman had stolen an ambulance from a hospital in Charleston and drove it into the Kanawha River in the 2200 block of Kanawha Boulevard just after 1 a.m.

Charleston Police say more information will be released later today.

Logan County Emergency Management Authority, confirms six people have died in a helicopter crash Wednesday evening.

The crash was reported around 5 p.m. in the Kelly Mountain area of Logan County.

Deputies say the body of a 6-year-old boy was found in the Kanawha River after a drowning incident Saturday.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is holding a press conference.

UPDATE: Responders are searching for the recovery of a six-year-old boy and the SUV he was is in when he and his aunt, Katreece Wells, went fishing early Saturday morning.

Deputies have recovered Wells body, who drowned in the Kanawha River trying to rescue the child.

Responders tell me they are also still searching for the SUV. Divers have found several cars near the river access point but none have been the vehicle involved.

Deputies say from witness accounts the child apparently knocked the SUV into gear then it rolled down the ramp and it struck Wells. From witness accounts Wells was able to rescue her nephew but the two were last seen going under water.

The search is ongoing. At 10 and 11 we’ll have updates on air.

Troopers say they have recovered the body of Katreece Wells, 44, from Indiana.
