Beyond diving into the extraordinary journey (30 addresses to be exact) of singer-songwriter Dolly Ave, we hear how she found solace and strength in writing her debut album while navigating life after the loss of her mom. And to travel and record this episode in the same space she wrote most of her album...you already know how magical it was. Tears were definitely shed.

It is with GREAT excitement to share that I've been in development on THE NICKI SUN SHOW!!! 😱😱😱

That's right! I'm currently in production, and I'll be returning to my original YouTube channel, bigger and better than ever! So make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE ✨️

I've been interviewing the world's most influential creators in the Tech & Entertainment space since 2009, starting "Now You Know" to amplify creatives in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community, and taking a hiatus to launch TechNicki Speaking (which has been merged into THIS FB page) to spotlight women and creators of color in film and tech. In between producing my own shows, I've had the incredible opportunity to host for several other media brands, experiment with ever-changing media, and teach and speak all over the world.

However, it wasn't helping that I didn't have a consistent brand or outlet to continue spotlighting amazing creators in my own way. My imposter syndrome has always held me back from truly going forward in launching my own show until recently.

Today, I also launched my updated Hosting Reel (check it out on my YouTube!) and it was the first time I got to take a step back, a deep breath, and see everything I've accomplished since moving to L.A. 10 YEARS AGO and say "You go girl" 🥹

This video is not just a mere compilation, but a celebration of the incredible memories, invaluable lessons, and amazing people I've met along the way. Now REAL talk as I'm getting super emotional writing this...
I would have never learned how to network or know of NAB Show if it weren't for my dad. Back in my college days when I was debating on pursuing a career as a broadcast journalist, my dad was told that if his daughter was serious about broadcast journalism, NAB Show was THE #1 tradeshow to attend. So we made a father-daughter roadtrip down to Las Vegas, where he showed me the ropes of networking with industry professionals and said the words I'll never forget: "One day, you'll be speaking at NAB Show. Just you wait." I ended up getting reconnected with NAB in 2018 where I had the opportunity of emceeing the Post Production World stage 3 years after my dad passed. Since then, I've returned every year in a different role, but with the same passion of connecting and bringing more women and creators of color to the forefront of this massive technology event. I even started my tech channel TechNicki Speaking to allow for my passions to take flight and have a platform. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I'd be a part of NAB Show in my biggest role yet. And one that is truly BEYOND a full circle moment. I'd like to think that my dad manifested this moment for me many years ago, but I am just getting started. I know he'd be proud.

This moment and opportunity will mean more to me than anybody will ever know. And I have some truly special people to thank as you KNOW I had to come back to THE BAY AREA, my HOMETOWN, to get some fresh photos for this announcement! Thank you to my sis Kim Le for doing my hair and makeup like old times, my girl Gina Lin for fitting me in her stunning designs, and my former MyxTV co-worker and talented Emmy-winning cinematographer/photographer Jon Santos for shooting me and bringing on Khattab McIntosh to assist with the most incredible energy and good vibes (amongst other talents) on set!

And to my fam (if you've made it this far, you're a REAL one), thank YOU for the continuous support and words of encouragement throughout my journey. Life is truly worth living and sharing with y'all by my side!!

Fight, Flight, or Freeze?

I didn't realize how much I was holding inside of me, and how much the ongoing hate crimes against the has been affecting my mental health until I was asked to speak on it during a podcast interview with Shana Erin & Michael McKiddy. Thank you Shana & Michael, my non-Asian allies, for giving me 2 HOURS of space on your Film Saves World - Podcast to talk not only about my career as a filmmaker and host, but also about these issues that affect us to our core 🙏

I just also happened to be in a self-defense training class that morning in collaboration with .la, , and Marcus Kowal of Systems Training Center to help train seniors to protect themselves, so you could say it was FRESH for me. While I am saddened it's come to teaching our Asian elders to fight back, I have been inspired by the resilience and strength of our community to donate their time and talents in taking action. I've met incredible community organizers and lifelong friends through this, so there's a silver-lining 💫

To Hong Lee, who has turned from victim to activist, Alyssa & Tina behind .la for organizing these events, Marcus Kowal & Jason Han for training our community, Sandra Endo for caring to cover our on Fox 11 Los Angeles, Steven Dorn Films for the sizzle, Robin Kim for the LIVE TV snippets, and the many people I've met through this work... Y'all, it's been a crazy few weeks, but being asked this question on a UCI Division of Career Pathways panel this week made me reflect immensely on how working within the has led me on my & I wanted to share a snippet.

Sharing my journey with college students was a beautiful and gentle reminder for how much I have for our community and every single person who has and given me so many to do what I love. Because it hasn't been about a specific job, but knowing my purpose, which has guided me in this life.

In spite of everything going on, I am grrateful. Grateful for the happening. Grateful that our community is collectively and actively speaking out against hate and supporting one another. Grateful that we're moving from raising awareness to discussing . Grateful that these incredible individuals & organizations who have been and providing to are finally getting the attention they deserve on a national and mainstream level.

Cancer doesn't take a break. And I haven't been able to either.

But, I will always be there for this non-profit organization who supported my father's battle with cancer (and countless other's) since 2005, which also was the catalyst that sparked my career in media and amplifying marginalized voices.

I'm so honored to be co-emceeing Asian American Donor Program (AADP)'s 30th Anniversary Virtual Celebration with my dear friend and comedian Joey Guila this Friday, Oct 23 from 7:30-9pm 🙌

Excited to share the virtual stage with Survivor winner Yul Kwon, magician Shin Lim, and comedian Dauood Mohammad Naimyar in helping AADP raise money to continue saving the lives of cancer patients needing a stem cell or bone marrow match, and raising awareness for the critical need to diversify the Be The Match Registry. To date, AADP has helped to register over 262,000 stem cell donors for the AAPI community and save the lives of 600 patients.

Join us for a night of celebrating and giving in honor of all the patients who passed away and are currently searching for a matching donor.
