Villain should not be confused with antagonist and that is something that confuses many people. definition by me based on what I have seen in the Vampire Diaries universe. A villain is someone evil who only has preference for his/her own interests, no matter what may happen to someone and it does not matter if it is a friend or family, they seek only their own benefit. An antagonist, despite having bad actions towards some characters, does so even to protect others because he/she cares about them and has feelings for them.

Can a villain have feelings? Yes, but in the end what this really wants is his/her own benefit.

Can an antagonist be a villain? No, because in the end this will also seek his/her benefit and the benefit of others, doing so through bad actions since he/she cares about others.
