I have set up this page for a way to express my interest and love for weather, and be able to share it with others. I have been fascinated by weather since I was a child, living in St. With a father as a science teacher, I grew up learning about the sky... whether it be the clouds, storms or the stars. Louis can get some pretty wicked storms, so it was a great place to grow up and be mesmerized by
the weather! Throughout high school and into college (Southern Illinois University), I studied everything I could that was even remotely related to weather. I became a weather spotter for the National Weather Service just out of high school, and have retained that status for over 25 yrs. (wow... time flies!)
In 2002 I obtained a job with the US Forest Service in the Southern California mountains (and later the Cascade mountains of Washington). While my job was primarily in Visitor information and Recreation, I was able develop and distribute daily forecasts and record daily weather observations for the Forest Service and the National Weather Service. I also served as a weather consultant on wildland fires and and other fire related projects. While in Washington, I maintained an online weather station and weather blog on The Weather Underground Network. in 2013, my family and I (wife, 3 dogs and cat) moved from Washington to Teton Valley, which is along the Wyoming/Idaho border. During this time I worked for Teton Valley News as a weatherblogger and weather forecaster. I also became an official weather observer for CoCoRaHs, a nationwide program affiliated with the National Weather Service.
2015 has brought us to the Flathead Valley of Montana. I have spent the past 9 months living in Big Arm, (along the southwest shore of Flathead Lake) and now we are living in Happy Valley, just south of Whitefish. My intentions for Flathead Valley Weather are to associate my weather station: http://tinyurl.com/n9b3trj and maintain daily forecasts for the Flathead Valley area. I am also in the process of creating an official website, which will not only have live weather, forecasts and discussions... but also feature area webcams, weather related links, and other information for the weather lover, as well as the outdoor enthusiast. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly... I hope this can be a place to interact with you and share our interest and love of weather. While it's fun 'doing' the weather, it's even more fun talking about it with others. So please, don't be shy... ask questions, provide comments, suggestions, criticisms...share photos.. I am a very easy going guy (with a sometimes warped sense of humor).
