Hopefully soon, it will start cooling off and we can change gears and get something done, like finishing that book we’ve been working on and getting it ready for some other people to read! The question about your book is, does it have value? Would other people benefit from reading it; would they want to read it?
You’ve been thinking about it for a long time, so you’re the one who knows about the value of that book. A publisher you may talk to has many books and statistics on his mind and how your book lines up with all of those. But you live in your world and you see what goes on around you and what people do and what they would benefit from.
The title of your book gets the point across to them, so does the sub-title; and the cover design gives them even more of a feel for the point of your book.
You are the one who knows the value of your book. Don’t give up on it easily. You lived the situation and came up with the answers and are better off because of them. Now have that book edited so it reads well, have it well designed, printed and bound so there’s value all around it and your reader knows it matters. And then put it out there so they can find it!
If you’ve had all that work done, the profit is all yours. Just keep on! That’s how this works. The ideas were yours; you wrote them well and followed through! Good for you!! And the books that follow this one will follow the same pattern and your readers will be waiting for them!
Hope you and your family have a GREAT FALL!!!

Your future in writing and selling your books, is about people. See all the potential connections in this picture?!

There is no magical place where you put your books and someone does the work for your books to sell. I have talked to several people who thought if they could just write a book and have it designed and printed, they would be wealthy from book sales. They can; they just missed the link of staying in touch and communicating with people. That’s what works!

Here are some ideas for you:

Your own web site. You display your book/books there and sell them right on your site. Share a little about yourself so your readers know their author and want to see what you write next. Have a blog page so you can speak to your followers on some kind of regular basis. It will be pleasant to come back and get the encouragement that you give. Soon, you’re an old friend. You don’t have to blog often, just regularly, so they don’t come back and find cob webs in your blog space. Once a month, even once a season is plenty.

Social media: Facebook – you can have a personal page, AND an author page where you can show your book and talk to readers. Share your author page with your friends on your personal page so they can also see what you’re doing.

X (formerly Twitter) – has become a really happening place to be communicating and speaking to the world about your ideas and your books! Search for new followers by typing in parts of conversations and see who comes up so you can see if you would like to follow. They check to see who you are and often, follow you back!

Instagram – a great place to post photos of what’s going on in your world and a brief post. Include a photo of your book and all things relevant.

And whatever else you find out there! There are social medias that fit you and those that don’t. Find your favorites. This has been found to far out-perform the old traditional ways of promoting books!

You can make and post YouTube videos on social media. If they look home-made, they look original!

Use key words and original content. There are so many things that get copied and pasted and passed on (so it’s old, already seen stuff), but what brings the internet to life is original content, and “your people” can start to find you when you make your post “key-word” rich. The words that best describe your subject. Have a list of the best ones that you can see while posting. You can do all of this!

Ask friends to read your book and talk about it, either in person or on social media. They can tell people where to find and purchase your book. That can quickly multiply your influence and book sales.

Of course, if you speak somewhere, have a box of your books on hand to show, talk about and sell!

(Those big names that can make your book available; it’s only these actions by you that send people to those names, or you can send them to your own web site!)

We’re ready for a conversation about your book when you are. Just fill out the contact page and we’ll set up a time to talk!

Hope you’re staying warm this winter!!

Who is this reader that you have written to? You would have them in mind as you are writing so you are speaking their language and as they look for just the right book, yours looks good to them! Then your book promotion efforts have to actually reach them so they know you are alive and they would like to read your work.

Every individual has different opportunities to get the word out about their book. Are you a member of organizations? Do you speak? (Take a box of books!) Do you blog and have followers? Are you on social media? And of course, include family and friends! You start in those places and the word spreads from there. You can also give away several books to people who are well connected or who blog and ask them to talk about your book and tell people where to find it.

What is “broad distribution”? It means your book is not just available from one place. You can make it available on your own web site where it is sold. You can send people there from social media etc. There may be some shops around you where your book is a good fit because of its subject. You can make it available through organizations where you are a member or groups to whom you speak. You can talk about it in any opportunity you have and people can order it from you just with your email address or phone number. Your book can be listed on Barnes & Noble’s data base so it can be ordered through them, but you will still be the one shipping it out, at least initially.

Eventually, your book can be stocked in a fulfillment company where they ship it out when orders come in, but you won’t want to do that at first until the sales will pay for this process. We have books all over the country and in several foreign countries and they got there just like this, but it takes time for the word about them to spread. That’s normal. Get started on your next book! The first one already being out there will help. Your readers will be waiting to see what you’re doing next!

Studies on Living the Christian Life, I Got Saved, and I Joined the Church. What do I do now?

Many people come into the Christian life with a conversation, or a service they attended and then they find themselves in need of a sense of direction. Dr. Black wrote this book for just the purpose of giving them some information and answers to get them started. You can get this book by contacting Dr. Black at [email protected] and let him know you saw his book on this site and would like to have a copy.

What Is It? Your book can communicate well, or it can be a generic package of missed opportunities.

There are several elements involved in the visual communication of a book. The cover design is the first thing you see and it has so much potential to communicate to the reader you have in mind. Speak right to them. If the cover can possibly include the right emotion, all the better. The title can be catchy and memorable but the sub-title must be clear so they know exactly where you are going with this. Your sub-title is a huge opportunity for great communication. The back cover also matters. Add a picture of yourself so your reader knows who is talking to them. Tell them who you are and why you know what you’re talking about. Also, back here can go a summary of the book, not telling them all about it but what was the point and why would they want to read it?

The inside of the book has several options that could greatly increase the value. You may need beautiful color photographs to match your subject. Or it may call for illustrations that have particular character or personality. Everything is not equal, there is the best choice for your book. Maybe black and white photos fit the mood of the times better, or even sketchy black ink illustrations!

The thoughtful spacing throughout your book makes it pleasant to navigate as the reader comes to expect the same shapes and looks of headings as they move forward through the pages and easily understand what’s going on. Even the margins and the page numbers matter, the font and how black and heavy it is, making the block of text intimidating or comfortable to read. How much white space is at the top of chapters, how much thought goes into the planning of all this?

The book design we’re describing doesn’t happen with an automated system. This added value is all accomplished by human effort, creativity, knowledge, and work. This kind of human effort has now become one of the most expensive things in our culture, but it’s worth it. There is no comparison between a book designed this way and one that has been run through a system. We used to assume design work would be done by human beings; of-course we would find a more “cost-effective” way to do it. But is it really “effective”? Sales and profit hang in the balance.

(This is barley, by the way!)

But, who's the author of this book??

Who will promote my book? Who will talk it up and tell people that it’s here? Will the publisher take care of that for me? If I put it on-line, will “they” promote it for me so I will get sales? It is the author who people want to hear from. You wrote the book and gave opinions, experiences, expertise and maybe even feelings. You are the person your readers are looking for and listening to so they know who is talking. No one can promote your book like you can. You are the one who needs to show up in every way you can think of so your readers know who you are; establish that relationship - and validate your book.

Book Publishing major mystery – Book Sales

Book sales are about people who want your book.

They are not about book shelves in famous places or their data-bases, because unless someone tells them, people don’t know your book is there. Data-bases, of course, are completely hidden unless someone asks to order your book. There honestly is no way to guarantee book sales. Every book published is a business venture.

Book sales come from relationships and trust that create interest. Are you a member of an organization where you have influence? Do you interface with people who know lots of people? If you have friends on social media, how many friends do your friends have? You can show your book on-line and talk about it. Your friends can share that post with their friends. If your book shows up on that social media or in any of those groups you attend, there could be conversations about your book that would create interest. Now those people just need to know where they can buy your book. Is it on your own web site? If it is, then you keep the profit! (You could also blog on that web site and your followers could easily end up being your readers.) Every individual would have a different set of opportunities to take advantage of. Think about yours!

So, your route is, ask questions of your friends, associates, family about the book you would like to publish. Listen to what they are telling you. Is there interest? If yes, print a chapter and give it to several people and see what they think, or even share it on-line. Do your due diligence with this kind of market research before you invest in publishing. But if you are seeing that your book would do well, believe it!!! How many books have you read that you loved? I have read a bunch! If you put a great book out there, your profit could be greater than you imagine! But this is how it gets moving and the momentum increases. It takes time, but it can end up all over the country and indeed, the world. You tell people, who tell people, who tell people how much they love your book and where to easily find it!!

Love to talk with you about your book; just fill out the contact page & we’ll set up a call!

31/12/2022

You can certainly write a book for your friends and family, but you will not like the cost of doing that. Publishing profits by the numbers. To do that, you have to ask some questions or do some “market research”. You can do that by printing part of your book and stapling it in the corner! Give copies to several of your trusted friends and family and ask what they think. (You could also post on social media if you like.) Did they enjoy reading that piece of your book? Would they like to read more? Would they spend money on a book like that – you know, the kinds of questions you can ask trusted friends. You need to know the truth. Ask for feed-back. What would make it better? How many people do you think would buy such a book? As in – a lot, or not many? If you learn that maybe your book has a narrow audience, there may be ways to make it better so it would interest more people. If you all agree that many people would want to read your book, then you may be on the right track. When you print a large quantity of books, the cost of each book is less, making your profit more. That’s the kind of thing that profitable publishing depends on. If you don’t ask any of these questions for yourself and you try to make it cost less by only printing a few books, you may be paying more money than you want to for a book that may not sell many copies. On the other hand, if you research well and produce a book of good quality, you may be surprised at the profit you can make! (I must note here that there is no guarantee of sales, so matter who publishes.) The press in this picture is the way it looks when you are on the right track with publishing. You don’t have to go overboard, but print yourself a stock of books. It takes a while to get the word out and your momentum up and it hurts your progress in the middle of that to run out of books. Happy Publishing!
