Friends for the common good,
As you head to the voting booth tomorrow, I invite you to pray first, speak to God and ask what you should do that invites the common good. I hope and pray that you hear that love is the message and that violence, both physical and verbal, is not love. The grab for power for the sake of it, is not caring for the common good. We seek leaders that have at the core of their being the best they can offer to care for everyone in our country, country, state, or township. If you believe there is a bully among your choices, someone who easily hands our slurs and childish names to appeal to the 3rd grader who was never-first-in-line, in all of us (or what ever hurt your feelings back then), then perhaps it is time to seek a calm space in your head and heart and look for a grown-up to vote for. Someone who has not only plans and answers to help solve some of the problems we have in this country or our regions, but someone who will consider the common good as decisions are being made.
:Please read the short statement below from the UMC Council of Bishops who have been through the hard years of fighting through prayer and action, for love, in our denomination. It is worth the read. blessings to you.
United Methodist Church bishops have issued a pastoral letter that denounces political violence, authoritarianism and Christian nationalism, which foster centralization and abuse of power, accompanied by racism, xenophobia, tribalism, and misogyny.
