The Swedish writer of Northern Lights and Darkness scenarios, Jonas Morian, has been published in an anthology of stories that take inspiration from both H.P. Lovecraft and the late Swedish author Sara Lidman.

For those not familiar with Sara Lidman, she was known for exploring themes of alienation and isolation. Her early novels focused on the difficult conditions facing poor farmers in the northern Swedish province of Västerbotten during the nineteenth century. She was also arguably one of the most important writers in the Swedish language of the twentieth century. This is especially so because of her innovative method of combining spoken vernaculars with Biblical language in a way closely tied to a certain kind of popular imaginary, while also integrating the worldly and the spiritual.

Given this, writing in both her and Lovecraft’s particular style would indeed be a challenge.

Unfortunately, the anthology is only available in Swedish, at the public library in Skellefteå - the Västerbotten town, whose cultural center proudly wears Sara Lidman’s name.

The waiting is over! We have just released a new entry in the Northern Lights and Darkness collection. It is called “The Calling of the Blood”, and is a modern-day Call of Cthulhu scenario set in the countryside of Sweden. In the scenario, the investigators (who don't know each other from the start, but all happens to be of Swedish decent) submit DNA samples to an online genealogy service and are then offered grants to travel to Sweden and learn about their family history. But a dark secret awaits them...

Q&A:

Q: Is the scenarios connected as a campaign?
A: No, each scenario is self-contained and designed as a stand alone experience for 1-2 play-sessions.

Q: Why so cheap?
A: Just like IKEA we want to bring this experience to as wide an audience as possible. The hope is to eventually bring this into print with a new united layout for the scenarios.

Q: Do we have to assemble the scenarios ourselves like IKEA furniture?
A: You have to print it yourself but assembly should be easy since the pages are in the correct order.
