If you’re ever in Hartford, Connecticut, be sure to check out the work of artist Amy Genser. Her primary material is mulberry paper rolled into tight cylinders, which she nestles into colorful masses that trail into seas of acrylic paint. Whether on canvas, PVC, or another base, the dense compositions sprawl in every direction and peek over the edges in small ridges.
Genser had expanded the size of her pieces since moving to a larger studio about four years ago when she began working on a larger canvas. We find ourselves living in frustrating and devastating times when things we assumed were behind us suddenly come to pass. Despite our good intentions, inflexible and cruel men have chosen for themselves the future of the world.

It appeared like our planet was on the verge of making improvements for the first time in history; things have changed dramatically over the last few decades, as we’ve become more tolerant and loving of each other, but it turns out that it doesn’t change anything because we’re all pawns in someone else’s chess game.

It’s critical to remember that no matter how difficult and frightening things get, we’ll eventually glimpse a clear blue sky above our heads. And perhaps, one day, there will be no more life-ending conflicts.

Looking at Ben Young‘s sculptures is like looking into the depths of the ocean. A sense of mystery and beauty draws you in, and it’s hard to look away. Young grew up around the sea in New Zealand, and that deep connection to nature shines through in his work. He uses a minimalistic aesthetic to highlight the beauty of glass and concrete, materials that often go overlooked. His pieces evoke the sea’s majesty while also reminding us of our humble place in the world.
Young’s glassworks frequently include metal figures or other tiny objects representing the sea, such as boats or palm trees. However, as he advances his career, his sculptures stray into the strange. Concrete mountains are broken up by sizeable spherical glass as if the blue substance were some enormous orb from another world. Young’s overall body of work sits well with the unexplored areas. However, as he explores new ideas and refines his visual style, we seem to be sailing further from the shore.

Jaime Molina’s wooden figures are mysterious and enigmatic. The minor characters atop angular bodies and large heads that split open to reveal inner objects appear to be in a perpetual state of meditation or slumber. The faces of many figures are framed with rows of nails of various sizes and ages, while others have their entire bodies pierced. Each figure has closed eyes, a serene, solemn demeanor, and striped clothing of ambiguous forms on Molina’s sculptures. He believes that the various textures and sizes contribute to the overall effect of his works.

Have you ever seen photos of plants that look like they’re from another world? Well, that’s because they are! Tom Leighton took these photos as part of his Variegation II series. In this series, Leighton focuses on plants from Cornwall, some of which he grows in his garden and others farther afield. He examines what humans might have been able to see if our night vision had evolved.
The project’s future phases will continue to develop the techniques used in this stage. The possibilities of color manipulation are also explored throughout the process. Leighton removes the plants’ typical greenish hues from their photos, using dreamy fluorescent colors to represent photosynthesis, after capturing them.

Christopher David White’s ceramics have a very unique and exciting process. His clay sculptures are so life-like that it is hard to tell the difference between clay and wood at first glance. In his studio, he applies alchemy of elements to transform slabs of clay into deceptive sculptures and functional things that resemble pieces of decomposing wood.
