THIS IS HOW GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. Kentucky’s Governor is a Democrat. The Secretary of State is a republican. It’s unlikely you’ll find much they agree on. But they worked together to find a compromise that is both can agree to.

In the press briefing yesterday, Secretary of State Adams emphasized ballot safety—state ID requirements; the ballot tracking system; the ability to vote in person for three weeks before the election; more ballot drop boxes so we aren’t overwhelming the USPS; and the expansion of in-person voting centers in each county. The Governor emphasized safe access to voting, while also not overwhelming rural postal carriers.

We all knew this. The question is, will anything actually be done? It’s doubtful. The GOP likely will use their ‘let’s see what the voters have to say’ election year strategy, kicking the can to January, when either a new Congress will have to deal with it, or these two can be officially nominated and confirmed.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office found that Department of Homeland Security acting secretary Chad Wolf and Ken Cuccinelli, effectively the agency's second-in-command, are serving under an "invalid order of succession." The GAO said it was referring the matter to DHS's inspector general for....

Michael Cohen’s foreword is laced with accusations and first-hand accounts of more than a decade as the attorney for President Trump. I prefer original sourcesover sites that tell you what to think, so I’ve linked his blog below. The book is written, and will be published before the election.

Golden showers in the US. Purposeful, co-ordinated meetings with Putin BEFORE the election. Tax fraud. He alleges all of this and more.

But is it true? And will it make a difference?

Read the Foreword of Disloyal, by Michael Cohen here. This book almost didn’t see the light of day as government officials tried to bar its publication.

So why the sudden reversal in the President’s feelings on mail-in voting? Since it was revealed that in Florida this is a main avenue for GOP wins. Since the president began attacking mail in votes, the GOP has noted a decline in participation. Democrats now hold a 500,000 vote majority, which is roughly four times the size of the win Trump had in 2016 in Florida.

In other words: he NEEDS mail-in votes.

More fuel for the fire. If the goal of banning TikTok is to eliminate security issues, then having them owned by Microsoft would solve that issue. The White House has been involved in the process, according to the Wall Street Journal. But the president says he doesn’t support that deal—he’d rather ban them.

Microsoft has paused negotiations to buy the U.S. operations of the video-sharing app TikTok after President Trump said late Friday he opposes the deal.

If the problem is that TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, which is a security issue, then Microsoft buying them should solve that issue, right? They’d be an American company and not accessible by the Chinese. According to the President, that’s not acceptable.

Or Is it that TikTok has been used to organize against the Trump campaign?

President Trump on Friday said he plans to ban the social media platform TikTok from operating in the United States.“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Governments don’t need to create new mandates to see how compliant you are. You already have a social security number assigned at birth. You apply for permission to drive and maintain your drivers license. You pay state and local taxes daily (sales taxes.) You file federal tax returns annually. You register your vehicles. You apply for permissions to add on to or remodel your home. Business permits, professional licenses...all of these and more.

You carry a device with you everywhere that can track your movements if they need to. You use web cookies and shopper’s cards that tell companies everything about your life. From the baby you’re expecting to the medical issues you’re treating, to the party you hosted last night. You already willingly give them all the information they could ever want.

They already know you’re compliant.

America lost one of its heroes this week. Mr. Lewis, the civil rights leader who died on July 17, wrote this essay shortly before his death, to be published upon the day of his funeral.

July 30, 2020

While my time here has now come to an end, I want you to know that in the last days and hours of my life you inspired me. You filled me with hope about the next chapter of the great American story when you used your power to make a difference in our society. Millions of people motivated simply by human compassion laid down the burdens of division. Around the country and the world you set aside race, class, age, language and nationality to demand respect for human dignity.

That is why I had to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, though I was admitted to the hospital the following day. I just had to see and feel it for myself that, after many years of silent witness, the truth is still marching on.

Emmett Till was my George Floyd. He was my Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. He was 14 when he was killed, and I was only 15 years old at the time. I will never ever forget the moment when it became so clear that he could easily have been me. In those days, fear constrained us like an imaginary prison, and troubling thoughts of potential brutality committed for no understandable reason were the bars.

Though I was surrounded by two loving parents, plenty of brothers, sisters and cousins, their love could not protect me from the unholy oppression waiting just outside that family circle. Unchecked, unrestrained violence and government-sanctioned terror had the power to turn a simple stroll to the store for some Skittles or an innocent morning jog down a lonesome country road into a nightmare. If we are to survive as one unified nation, we must discover what so readily takes root in our hearts that could rob Mother Emanuel Church in South Carolina of her brightest and best, shoot unwitting concertgoers in Las Vegas and choke to death the hopes and dreams of a gifted violinist like Elijah McClain.

Like so many young people today, I was searching for a way out, or some might say a way in, and then I heard the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on an old radio. He was talking about the philosophy and discipline of nonviolence. He said we are all complicit when we tolerate injustice. He said it is not enough to say it will get better by and by. He said each of us has a moral obligation to stand up, speak up and speak out. When you see something that is not right, you must say something. You must do something. Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part to help build what we called the Beloved Community, a nation and world society at peace with itself.

Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it.

You must also study and learn the lessons of history because humanity has been involved in this soul-wrenching, existential struggle for a very long time. People on every continent have stood in your shoes, through decades and centuries before you. The truth does not change, and that is why the answers worked out long ago can help you find solutions to the challenges of our time. Continue to build union between movements stretching across the globe because we must put away our willingness to profit from the exploitation of others.

Though I may not be here with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.

When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide.

No, Nancy Pelosi would not be President if the election is delayed past January 20th. She is up for Re-election this year—88% of Congress is—and would not be Speaker of the House on January 20th if there is no election because she wouldn’t be sworn in to the new Congress that begins January 2nd. The Senate Pro Tempore would be the President. Currently, that is Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican. However, if the election isn’t held, the Democrats would hold the majority (because a majority of the empty seats would be GOP) and could theoretically elect their own Pro Tempore, who would theoretically be President.

If the election were held, but contested, you have a host of processes that are triggered—including state legislatures deciding who their electoral college votes will go to. If it gets to the point of the US House of Representatives, each state will have one vote.

So ignore Twitter—Nancy Pelosi will not be president.

NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

This isn’t something within Presidential powers. The date of the election is bound on multiple sides, by federal law and by the constitution. Primaries are state and party processes, so each state can make that decision. General elections are something quite different, and would require Congress to agree to act—which is extremely unlikely to happen with different parties in charge of each chamber. On top of that, the constitution demands Congress must be sworn in on January 2nd, and the President by January 20th. Elections take a good deal of time to count and certify even in quiet years, which means there’s no time to postpone anything. Remember, it’s not just the President up for election this year, but 80% of Congress are up for election too. They have their own races to run.

Also, while the date of the election is set by federal law, the methods of voting are left to the states. Part of that balance of powers between states’ rights and federal power. This means that each state gets to choose whether to allow mail-in ballots, early voting, etc. That is a LOCAL decision, not federal, and the President has no say in it.

Trailing badly in the polls, the president baselessly suggested the November election would be “the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT” in history.

Our wants are not the same as our rights. Government can and does regulate commerce on a daily basis. Just because you WANT to go buy something whenever, doesn’t mean it’s your RIGHT to do so. Prescription drugs are one example. Liquor laws are another. There are laws and regulations in play that stores and shoppers must both abide by. Limits are part of the daily practice of commerce. You’re used to them, so you don’t notice them as often. New, temporary measures are not an infringement of your rights. There is no right in the constitution to go Krogering or to cram into a Home Depot. Waiting three days for grocery pickup is not a violation of your rights, nor is waiting your turn in line to enter a store.

Now, smart public policy makers realize that restrictions must be reasonable or it creates more problems than it solves. That’s why most states have protected the food chain and kept open pharmacies, hardware supply, gun shops, liquor stores, and even ma*****na dispensaries where legal. Because they understand that closing them would cause unreasonable hardships and panic.

Patriotism isn’t measured in how often you salute the flag, but in how you answer the call when your fellow citizens need you.

Fly your flags. Sing the anthem. But it’s all lipstick on a pig without the deeds to go with it. Right now our country, our fellow citizens, they need us. What can YOU do right now?

19/03/2020

We are not at war, but I keep thinking of the people in WWII, how did they adapt, what did they do to improve the greater good? It’s been 70 years since Americans were called to sacrifice for the greater good like we are today. Just like then, we all have our roles to play! So I think, what is my role? What can I do?

— I can plant my own victory garden. I can have veggies and fruits from my own yard so I’m leaving fresh produce at the stores for others who can’t garden.

—I can help share verified information that helps others stay informed and prepare.

—I can help friends in need by listening, by sharing supplies, and helping them stay safe and well.

—I can help broadcast my church’s service, so that others can stay home and still connect with God.

—I can stay home, and not risk being a spreader of the virus.

Personally, I think it helps to feel like I have positive actions I can take, instead of sitting home waiting for the next bad news story.

What can YOU do? What would help the effort and give you some control?

This is significant. They do not have information about underlying conditions yet, but the suspicion is that because so many Americans are developing pre-diabetes, obesity and other health issues at a younger age, that it and other factors play a role.

New C.D.C. data showed that nearly 40 percent of patients sick enough to be hospitalized were aged 20 to 54. But the risk of dying was significantly higher in older people.

Y’all know that super duper screening website that would prescreen you and then send you to a massive network of drive through testing centers that President Trump said Google was building? It doesn’t exist. At least, not nationwide. Google is currently building a small site for health care workers to use in the San Francisco area, with eventual hope to expand it to California. They had no idea the President was going to announce it as nationwide and are not set up for that. That is a major logistical operation, one that would take a long time to build.

Google's not making a nationwide coronavirus testing website. And the company had no idea the president would say it was.

Your values only matter when it costs you something to follow them.

Love him, hate him, agree with him, or not—it cost Mitt Romney in a big way to stand up and make the vote he did today. I may not often agree with him, politically or theologically, but I damn well honor the guts it took to live out his values today.

Washington • Sen. Mitt Romney voted Wednesday to convict President Donald Trump of abuse of power, arguing the president violated the trust of the American people and the authority of his office for his own personal and political benefit.

I'm ADHD. I'm raising two kids who are ADHD. If anyone gets fidgeting and trouble focusing, I do. But the Senate GOP insisted on rushing the process into these marathon sessions. This is what they asked for. This their JOB, and the rules they themselves set to do it by. I have little to no sympathy.

Also, fidget spinners, naps and leaving the proceedings to talk to cameras? I don't want to hear about younger generations and their self absorption or their inability to focus on their work.

This man wrestled with the London bridge attacker, getting his weapon away from him. While those around him ran away, he ran through traffic and jumped a partition to tackle the terrorist attacking people. How does the internet repay him? By spreading rumors and half-truths about him:

1. that he’s a murderer out on day release (he isn’t, that was someone else)
2. That he had a packet of co***ne on him. (Also untrue.)

No matter how many facts are spread, the salacious gossip spreads faster. This man is a hero, and yet he’s being slandered because people can’t be bothered to verify their facts.

This is why it’s VITAL to go to primary sources—listen/watch the testimony, or read the transcripts. If you you rely on outside news agencies, you’re going to get a filtered version. And if you’re getting your impression of the impeachment proceedings from posts and headlines on social media—then you are getting slanted versions of the day’s events.

I’ve been listening live as much as possible, and reading transcripts for what I cannot listen to live. I can tell you, the testimony is much more nuanced than either of the two parties are presenting. Each side have set up their minutes on camera to be easily quoted as support for their narrative.

Nothing Republican Rep. Devin Nunes does during the hearings makes sense if you watch it in the moment. When it’s posted on Facebook later, though, it works perfectly.

It’s over! Bevin has conceded. Andy Beshear is the Governor-elect of KY.

Drawing any parallels between this and Trump in 2020 would be difficult. This was clearly a referendum on Bevin, not on the GOP. Many had speculated thatBevin would find help in a recount via the GOP dominated state legislature, but many GOP representatives and leaders made it clear this past week that he’d burned too many bridges in that camp, and wouldn’t be receiving their support unless serious new information surfaced.

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin conceded the governor’s election Thursday, ending more than a week of speculation over whether he would contest the results of the Nov. 5 election, which he narrowly lost to Democrat Andy Beshear.

This fascinates me. Targeting was one of my specialties many years ago, when I worked in the field. Simply put, it doesn’t matter how much money you have, or how slick your ads are—if you don’t get 50% of the vote plus one, you lose. To get that 50%+1, you need to know specifically who is your voter. This is your ‘base’ plus at large voters who will resonate with your issues. At this point in the primary candidates are solidifying their base, and singling out who is most likely to vote for them and stay loyal long-term. This graphic and analysis gives you a good idea of what demographic each candidate thinks they’ll pull in as their base. They have been campaigning long enough now to have a good idea of who their message resonates with, and begin reaching more of them for their base. As we round out of the holidays and into the new year, they’ll move more into mobilizing their base to target more of the at-large Democrat voter, to get to that 50+1 in each state’s primary.
