EXCLUSIVE: Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu Incapacitated, Bedridden In Ibadan; Unable To Sign Documents Yet Refuses To Hand Over To Deputy

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is currently bedridden in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and is unable to sign official documents, top sources in the government told SaharaReporters on Thursday.

NEWS HOTspot Nigeria learnt that the state governor had also been abandoned by his wife and children.

Meanwhile, the governor has refused to hand over to his deputy despite his incapacitation.

Akeredolu is a second-term governor under the All Progressives Congress and his tenure will come to an end in 2025.

“Governor Akeredolu is incapacitated and bedridden in his Ibadan home. His hands and legs are immovable. His wife and kids also abandoned him,” one of the sources revealed.

“He is unable to sign documents but he could still speak. Meanwhile, he has refused to hand over the affairs of government to his deputy,” the source added.

NEWS HOTspot had exclusively reported in January that Akeredolu was treating an ailment said to be blood cancer (leukemia).

Yesterday, I honoured the invitation to the presentation of Most Rev. Bishop Mathhew Hassan Kukah's new book: "Witness to Reconciliation - My Personal Journey Towards Reconciliation," in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Among the eclectic special guests were President Olusegun Obasanjo, retired Justice Kumai Akaahs of the Supreme Court, and so many others. Gov. Nyesom Wike was the Host. I ended up not speaking at the event due to a protocol mix up, which required me to speak after President Obasanjo had spoken, which I naturally declined. However, my compelling reason for attending the event was in part to acknowledge and further underline the overwhelming imperative of reconciliation processes in our country, Nigeria, today.

As I have always stressed, what is happening in the South-South, and indeed all over Nigeria, requires adequate attention and reconciliation in order to engender sustainable peace and progress.

The environment blight which Ogoni people have experienced and the unfulfilled promises, which by extension pertains to the larger South-South and indeed to the entire nation, continue to be a source of deep-seated mistrust, agitations, civil unrest and tribal division; all of which require urgent attention and reconciliation.

I thank Bishop Kukah for the painstaking efforts of putting together his experiences in this literary piece. I also urge the government to do more in the area of reconciliation, pacific settlement of disputes and promotion of national unity and development.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, has asked the Senate to approve a request to pay the judgement debt in the sum of $566,754,584.31, £98,526,012.00, and N226 billion.

The APC had zoned the Senate Presidency to the South-South and the Speakership of the House of Representatives to the North-West.
The party also zoned the Deputy Senate Presidency to the North-West, and Deputy Speakership to the South-East
NEWS HOTSPOT was reliably informed that following agitations against the North-West producing two presiding offices, Kwankwaso urged Tinubu to revisit the zoning arrangement.

Tinubu and Kwankwaso had met in Paris, the capital of France, last week for talks.

Though details of the Paris meeting were not officially disclosed, multiple sources told NEWS HOTSPOT that the President-elect may have agreed to revisit the zoning formula put in place earlier by the party’s NWC.

A lawmaker-elect, who spoke to NEWS HOTSPOT on condition of anonymity, said: “Our outing today at the APC headquarters was very encouraging and we are more determined to drive home our point that Tajudeen Abbas possesses the qualities to lead us.

“But there are several areas we need to straighten up if reports coming from the Defence House are anything to go by.

PRESIDENCY: TINUBU TO KNOW ELIGIBILITY FATE ON FRIDAY 26

The Supreme Court yesterday fixed May 26 to deliver its judgement on an appeal challenging the eligibility of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest the presidential election that held on February 25.

The appeal, marked SC/CV/501/2023, which was brought before the court by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is seeking to disqualify Tinubu and the Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima.

PDP contended that the manner the APC and Tinubu nominated Shettima as a vice presidential candidate for the election was in gross breach of the provisions of Sections 29(1), 33, 35 and 84(1) and (2) of the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended.

I told the court that there was evidence to establish that Shettima was nominated twice, both for the vice presidential position and Borno Central senatorial seat, an action the PDP maintained was in contravention of the law.

Aside from asking the court to nullify Tinubu and Shettima’s candidacy, the appellant equally applied for an order to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to expunge their names from the list of nominated or sponsored candidates that were eligible to contest the presidential poll.

Meanwhile, a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, okayed the matter for judgement, after all the parties adopted their final briefs of argument.

While the PDP, through its lawyer, Mr. Joe Agi, SAN, urged the court to uphold its case by setting aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal on the matter, counsel for Tinubu and the APC, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, SAN, sought the dismissal of the suit on the premise that it was bereft of any merit.
