𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘺𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘦… We’ve all been there. In our latest episode of The Word Count, @jo.dixon.writes raised a powerful question:
❓Why can’t we say we believe in what we do?
What is it about sharing our creative work that feels so vulnerable? Why does confidence sometimes feel at odds with humility?
Maybe it’s conditioning. Maybe it’s the era we grew up in. Maybe it’s the weight of expectations. But at some point, we have to back ourselves.
And we want YOU to believe in what you do, dear listener!
✅ You don’t need to be published.
✅ You don’t need to have “made it.”
✅ You don’t even need to have finished something.
If you write, you are a writer.
End of story ✍️
Tell us - what’s one way you’re embracing your identity as a writer this week?

Merry Christmas dear listeners and a safe & Happy New Year from The Word Count… and Phil 🥰
We’ve written our Christmas lists, set our writing goals and checked out of socials to enjoy Christmas with family & friends 🎄
Thank you for your support and pod love this year. We can’t wait to check in with you all again in 2025 & share our progress ✍️
Enjoy Phil finally getting his wish as we share the LONGEST intro we’ve ever recorded 😂
With warmest wishes - Jo, Jacq & Fiona 💛💛💛
𝟭𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗦!
With only one episode to go this year, we ticked over the 1000 follower mark with only days to go until we next record 🙌🙌🙌
𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘠𝘰𝘶 - 𝘍𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢, 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘲 & 𝘑𝘰 💛
To every one of our dear listeners - whether you have followed us from the beginning, jumped on along the way or have only recently found us - we want to thank you for checking in with us each fortnight 🙏
It means so much to have the support of the writing community, readers and the publishing industry. We started this podcast to keep ourselves accountable but it has morphed into a community of like-minded listeners - whether they are writing or not - that enjoy hearing us chat and laugh and set our goals & we feel so lucky to have you & this in our lives 💛💛💛
We did promise a winner if we hit 1000 followers… so we will be drawing the winner 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 on our final episode of 2024. Tune in next Monday, 16th December to find out if YOU are our lucky winner and… if we hit our goals 😜
Did you catch Jacq on our latest episode sharing some invaluable wisdom about receiving feedback, something she does every day in her job as a copywriter? Here’s an extract from Ep 28 of @thewordcount - “Processing Feedback” - showcasing Jacq’s thoughts on constructive v critical feedback 💛
We are celebrating a BIG win here dear listeners… an important moment in the life of any writer!!! 💛💛💛
Congratulations to our very own @jo.dixon.writes who recently typed those magical two words for Book #3 - THE END 👏👏👏👏👏
Jo shares all the hard work, determination and the relief of finishing her third novel as we celebrate this fabulous achievement with her (not without some small amount of relief from Jo 😅). We are so delighted for you Jo & incredibly excited for #thebookthatalmostbrokeme (except it didn’t! 🙌) Woo hoo!🥂🎉🥳🥂🎉🥳
Believe us when we tell you this will be Jo’s best book yet. WATCH THIS SPACE! ✨
If you haven’t listened to Episode 27 yet (why not? almost everyone else has which is why we can post this 😂) it is now available wherever you love to listen! 💛
🎶 𝐼’𝑚 𝑎 𝑤𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟 🎶

𝗘𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝟮𝟳: 𝐹𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑙 𝐹𝑢𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠 is out tomorrow (Mon 21st Oct) wherever you love to listen! 💛
No sooner had we returned from the Northern Beaches Readers Festival, we began dropping like flies! 😷🤧🤒
Jo and Jacq caught covid and Jacq completely lost her voice much to Phil’s delight! 😂
As they were beginning to improve, Fiona caught a virus so we were 3 for 3, and all down for the count 🤦🏻♀️
As we are all just beginning to feel healthy again, we’ve made the decision to completely miss a fortnight 🙃
But we will be back in your ears next week to catch you up on everything we’ve been up to… So stay tuned if you want to know:
❓Has Jo completed Book 3
❓Who submitted to the Affirm Fellowship
❓Who received top marks from CYA Comp
All will be revealed in Ep 27: Festivals & Consequences on 21st October 💛
Last night Jo and Fiona celebrated one year of @thewordcountpodcast at one of Melbourne’s favourite writers’ venues @themoatmelb which is underneath the State Library. It is a gorgeous venue with amazing food and cocktails and is filled with books, art and wine 📚 🖼️ 🍷 Sadly, Jacq was at home in Tasmania 😢 so a second celebration is scheduled for when we are all @nbrfestival next week! 💛
Looking for some Monday Motivation? Look no further! 💛
In our latest episode we discuss our accountability, our goals for the fortnight & how to get value for your money when choosing courses, workshops & festivals. We also share some exciting news about the best intro voiceover in the business - our very own Phil 🙌💒 Have a listen if you need a boost or just a laugh.
We love our intros for @thewordcountpod ✨ With thanks to the amazing Phil, @phil to whom we are so grateful for doing our voiceovers!

Looking for some #mondaymotivation?
Look no further than our latest episode where we talk about what we fear most about writing (warning: it’s a lot! 😂) Episode 19 is about facing our fears but writing on regardless 💛
In the intro, Phil continues with his master plan to write his memoirs and replace Jacq in the team, but she has news for him! 😛
We love our intros and thanks to the amazing Phil, @philbaildon_buyersagent to who we are so grateful for doing our voiceovers! That might be “to whom”, but we don’t care. That’s what editors are for 😂
Check in next Monday @thewordcountpod to find out what we are tackling next. Follow us so you don’t miss an episode! - 𝘍𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢, 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘲 & 𝘑𝘰 💛

We loved this episode’s intro so much because Phil is threatening to takeover Jacq’s position on the pod if she doesn’t stop procrastinating! 🤯 Hopefully she’ll listen to you Phil, because she definitely doesn’t listen to us 🤣
If you are looking for #MondayMotivaation you’ll definitely find it in this episode. We talk about WHY we write, Jo gives us an update on how she is attacking Book 3 & we discuss whether being printed in Dolly mag’s Poet’s Corner in the 1980’s counts as being published? That’s right, we ask the big questions here dear listeners 🤪
