Stephen King’s “IT” inspires new housing development in Gastonia.

Announced last week, real estate firm Red Balloon Company says construction will be underway on a master-planned community in Gastonia. The project will begin in the spring of 2024 and will cover 360 acres located on Forbes Road, near Neal Hawkins Drive.

We interviewed project manager, Michael Day, who had this to say about the development:

“I’ve been a long time Stephen King fan and most of Gastonia reminds me of Derry from the IT novel. I figured, why not name it that?”

”Gastonia needs more diversity and we believe a community like this is what will fit the mold. People are concerned about the name, all the land we’re going to use, etc., but I don’t think there’s enough homes in Gastonia, to be honest.” Day stated.

The build has been approved for 877 single-family residences, but will begin with 195 various housing types.

For the first time in 20 years, frontman of Limp Bizkit and former Gastonia resident, Fred Durst, announced that he and the band will be making their way back to Charlotte, NC in August of 2024.

Limp Bizkit will be headlining the “Loserville” tour, which makes it’s stop at the PNC Music Pavilion on August 8th, 2024.

Although Durst was born in Jacksonville, Florida, he moved to Gastonia at a young age and was a graduate of Hunter Huss Highschool in 1988. A few years later, Durst began his professional music career in the rock/rap/nu metal scene.

The Charlotte stop of the tour will also feature Texas rapper, Riff Raff, as well as 80’s child actor Corey Feldman.

We are saddened to announce that our beloved Mayor Walker E. Reid, III passed away today, Thursday, November 30, 2023. We are saddened at his death, and he will be dearly missed. The family is asking for privacy and your prayers during this time of bereavement.

Mayor Reid was a pioneer and a compassionate leader who was truly passionate about our city, its residents, newcomers, and those who would experience new beginnings in the future. He was the City of Gastonia’s first elected African American mayor, whose career spanned nearly three decades in public service.
He was elected for a two-year term as Gastonia’s Mayor from 2017-2019 and was re-elected for a four-year term in 2019. He also served as Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilman for 22 years, was Former Assistant Fire Marshal for Mecklenburg County, and Former Fire Service Instructor at Gaston College. A native of Gastonia, he graduated from Hunter Huss High School and studied Fire Science Technology at Gaston College. More information about funeral arrangements will be communicated through the City’s social media platforms.

Jeff Bezos and Joel Osteen announce new partnership for the first “Amazon Church.”

After years of intensive planning, the very first Amazon religious center is set to open its doors in 2024 in Los Angeles.

The church, which will be headed by Joel Osteen, will offer several different selections for a one hour, interfaith experience. Each gathering will consist of different elements from Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, and Buddhist faiths. Church goers will enter in the faith of their liking at a digital kiosk upon entry and are guided to their custom worship experience.

According to the statement of faith, the new church will promote a “peaceful, new way to encounter God. No matter what religion you are”.

Amazon Church plans to add 14 more locations by 2027.

The Carolina Panthers have announced their new coach. Former University of Louisiana coach, Red Beaulieu, steps in head coach for The Panthers for the remainder of the 2023 season.

This news comes only one hour after the team announced the firing of former coach, Frank Reich.

Coach Red comes from an impressive background. He led UL to several championships, with their only loss in 1998 to the SCLSU Mud Dogs.

Red is known for his impressive, but yet secretive play calling, all written and contained in the same notebook since the late 70’s.

⚠️ BREAKING NEWS ⚠️ O'Charley's Restaurant in Gastonia Closes Following Diarrhea Incident

In an unexpected turn of events, O'Charley's, a popular dining establishment in Gastonia, has closed its doors due to health concerns related to a recent incident involving diarrhea.

OCharley’s has sat at the corner of New Hope road and Franklin Boulevard for over 20 years. Known for its American fare and friendly atmosphere, the decision was made to close its doors after a plumbing issue with the building.

One customer, Darryl Smith stated, “I was eating the chicken tenders. Been eating them for years. I thought it was some sort of bbq sauce, but I saw some brown droplets coming from the ceiling, hitting my plate. That’s when I knew something was bad.”

Shortly after the droplets were seen by Smith, the emergency sprinkler system began spraying the brown liquid everywhere throughout the entire restaurant. After a service call to a local plumber, it was discovered that the septic system had spilled into the emergency water system, which resulted in a Nesquik like substance soaking the building.

“It stinks so bad, so we’re just gonna close”, stated manager Hillary Beuts. “The smell won’t leave and I’m tired of mopping, so we’re closing.”

Man Claims To Have Encountered Bigfoot In Gastonia’s Chapel Grove Community

In a bizarre turn of events, the Chapel Grove area of Gastonia was sent into a frenzy yesterday when local resident, Bob "Wildfoot" Johnson, claimed to have spotted Bigfoot in his own backyard.

According to Johnson, who lives off Lewis Road in South Gastonia, claims he was peacefully tending to his tomato plants when he was startled by a hairy creature with feet the size of watermelons. "I couldn't believe my eyes," Johnson exclaimed. "There it was, lurking behind the bushes. I thought he was my neighbor, Tommy, getting into my beer cooler again, but no way"

News of the sighting spread like wildfire through the Chapel Grove community, and some residents have placed more cameras up, hoping to capture the elusive beast on film. “I’m gonna mount him on the wall,” said Johnson. “I thought I saw one at Crowders Mountain in ‘82, but they said I was crazy.”

Expert cryptozoologists, on the other hand, were less convinced. Dr. Amanda Skeptiker, a renowned skeptic and employee of Gaston County’s Schiele Museum of Natural History, commented, "It's fascinating how Bigfoot sightings only seem to happen in areas with slow news days. Coincidence? I think not."

⚠️⚠️ BREAKING NEWS IN GASTONIA ⚠️⚠️

The infamous yellow rock, located on Union Road in Gastonia, had claimed yet another victim.

We’re told that the woman, who will remain nameless, has an ego, as well as a front axle, that is in critical condition.

The small boulder has led to the detriment of six vehicles alone this year. Gastonia city councilman, Darrell Brooks stated, “ we actually cannot move this rock. It is actually a historic Native American landmark that pre-dates in Gastonia. Therefore, it cannot be moved.”

Gastonia News Now has scheduled an interview with the victim, as well as Mike’s Auto Shop, to find out the severity of the damage.
