As the rainbow merch goes on clearance, let’s not forget true allyship!

Pride is a testament to resilience, a movement for liberation and equality. It's essential that we continue these practices in honor of LGBTQIA+ history and futures. ✊

Swipe for more as we shed light on the profound importance of true allyship and the do's and don'ts for brands and Pride. It's crucial that we educate ourselves, amplify marginalized voices, and actively advocate for equality.

Although June is coming to an end, Pride is a year-round commitment. Let's go beyond performative gestures and ensure our allyship is genuine and impactful. It's time to walk the talk and foster a society where everyone feels accepted and celebrated for who they truly are. 🌈 🫶

Don't know who needs to hear this but Pride isn't all about Rainbows!

As politicians are proposing hundreds of bills attacking LGBTQ+ rights across the US, it's never been more crucial for brands to understand their role as allies.

Recent incidents involving Target, Bud Light and North Face highlight the challenges brands face when featuring the LGBTQ+ community in their campaigns.

In this charged cultural and political moment, brands must really think about their intentions and level of commitment. Simply using rainbow designs and generic slogans won't cut it. Brands need to show up with purpose, decide where they stand, and take meaningful action. Empty gestures can actually harm both their reputation and the LGBTQ+ community..

When brands participate in Pride campaigns, they're making a statement about which side they support. Meaningful allyship goes beyond marketing. It means getting involved and supporting organizations fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, and advocating for systemic change. Of course all brand messaging should always be echoed by the executive suite, because Pride is about being vocal, not silent.

Representation matters, but it's not enough. If we feature drag queens or transgender individuals, we must acknowledge the challenges they face. Laws in states like Tennessee, Kentucky, and Oklahoma threaten their rights and safety. Brand's must be prepared to stand with them and support the community they showcase.

Brands should be prepared for backlash when featuring LGBTQ+ individuals. They need to create safe spaces, prioritize the well-being of talent, and protect them from trolls and hate speech.

As LGBTQ+ allies, brands must also stand up for our employees. Anti-trans legislation puts their safety and well-being at risk. Internal systems, diversity policies, and protections should be up to date and robust.

Celebrating Pride becomes challenging when the very existence of LGBTQ+ individuals is threatened. So let's back our campaigns with action and advocacy. By genuinely committing to understanding LGBTQ+ challenges, we can make a real difference and contribute to a more inclusive society. 🏳️‍🌈

Listen up it's 2023, and your followers want to know what you think about the issues that matter to them.

If you’re not putting your values front and center, you can't attract the kinds of passionate followers and customers you want, and you’ll eventually lose out to your competition.

But don't just take my word for it!

I'm all about warm fuzzies, but I believe in numbers. And here's the stats! 👀

👉 80% of Millennials say making the world a better place is one of their top priorities, and that they PREFER purpose-driven brands.

👉 78% of Americans believe companies must do more than just make money; they must positively impact society as well.

👉73% of Millennials and 66% of all consumers are willing to SPEND MORE on a brand that has socially conscious or sustainable practices.

👉68% of Americans say they are more WILLING TO SHARE the content from purpose-driven brands on social media over that of traditional companies.

BUT...

👉 61% of Americans DON'T BELIEVE a company really has purpose unless it is made obvious on product packaging, the company website, and arguably most importantly, social media.

So it's absolutely crucial that you let your audience know where you stand on the things that matter to them!

Don't know where to start? This is where we come in!

Let's chat Social Justice!

If you've followed us for a while you know that it's an integral part of our values as a company. But have you ever thought about how Animal Rights fit into Social Justice?

A lot of people, even the most empathetic and inclusive of us, have never thought to ask themselves this question.

But here are 7 reasons why we think you should:

1) The health and rights of slaughterhouse workers are integral to the Social Justice conversation. And this can affect kids as young as 12.

2) Factory farms often disproportionately impact marginalized communities, burdening them with environmental pollution, health risks, and economic inequalities.

3) The environmental impact of animal agriculture is massive. In fact, it produces almost the same amount of Greenhouse Gas Emissions as all our cars, trucks, boats, and planes COMBINED.

4) The continuous impregnation of dairy cows and the separation of mothers from their calves raise ethical concerns. This is a Feminist issue.

5) Most of the population (68%) is actually lactose intolerant and don't have access to non dairy products. This overwhelmingly affects marginalized communities where plant-based options are hard to find or too expensive.

6) It creates more food insecurity as fish and grains are taken from poorer countries to feed pigs, chickens, and salmon in richer, Western countries.

7) Some 80% of global deforestation is a result of agricultural production, which is also the leading cause of habitat destruction.

For these and other reasons, we believe it's vital to understand the interconnectedness and collective responsibility we have towards all beings, to foster a more inclusive and compassionate world.

"If we aren't intersectional, some of us, the most vulnerable, are going to fall through the cracks." -Kimberlé Crenshaw

Kimberlé Crenshaw, an American law professor, coined the term "intersectionality" back in 1989. However, it hasn't been properly recognized until recent years. Essentially, it is another way of saying: "all inequality is not created equal."

To elaborate, if feminism is advocating for women's rights and equality between the s*xes, intersectional feminism is the understanding of how women's overlapping identities — including race, class, ethnicity, religion and s*xual orientation — impact the variety of ways they may experience oppression in their lives.

For those less familiar with the term, we can think of it this way: a white woman can experience discrimination based on gender, but a Black woman faces discrimination for both gender AND race. And a Latina le***an is disadvantaged because of ethnicity, gender AND s*xual orientation. These cases of discrimination intersect with one another, which results in many voices being unheard. Which is why it is important to address ALL women with ALL different backgrounds who are facing discrimination.

So on this , let's add intersectionality to the discussion. Doing so helps to prevent those being discriminated against in different ways from being ignored. Together, we can all work to ensure justice in the feminist movement while being allies to all women facing discrimination.

Yes, you read that right. 79.3%!

Increasingly customers want to see businesses support women's rights, address poverty and inequality, racism, gun violence, climate change, just about everything!

22/02/2023

I was born white. In South Africa. During Apartheid. The color of my skin is a privilege that allowed me to ignore a decades long system of racial inequality and cruelty.

We moved to California when I was 10. As an immigrant, I certainly had a little culture shock to deal with. But I spoke English. I have an ear for accents and was able to sound American almost immediately. My native language is a privilege that allowed me to assimilate as an immigrant relatively easily and ignore the challenges that other immigrants struggle with.

Growing up I liked boys. I also always identified as a girl. So in addition to being white, I am a straight cis-gendered woman. My privilege as a heteros*xual cis-gendered person allowed me to grow up feeling like a "normal" teenager and ignore the discrimination that the LGBTQIA+ community has to navigate.

Perhaps if we'd moved to a less liberal state, or in a different decade, my Jewish last name would have given me some insight into the experiences of so many of my ancestors. But we didn't. So my parent's socio-economic class is a privilege that allowed me to grow up in a part of the country that wasn't anti-Semitic, and ignore the struggles that come with religious persecution.

Here's where I'll lose some of you. I was born a PERSON! As a human animal I do not need to worry about my body being used for food, clothing, medicine, sport, or experiments. My species is a privilege that affords me protections under the law that non-human animals do not have, and allows me to ignore that 77 Billion animals will suffer and die this year for food alone.

This is a non-exhaustive list of my privileges. I was also born able-bodied and neurotypical. While I have struggled on and off with depression for the past 2 decades, my privilege as an able-bodied person is still clear.

It took me a long time to understand how all these privileges together allowed me to ignore a great many injustices in this world. But now that I recognize my many privileges I can use them to raise awareness for those who are less fortunate.

Now it's your turn...what does your privilege allow you to ignore?

Today our client VOICE released a new report in partnership with HIAS called “Waiting for the Sky to Close: The Unprecedented Crisis Facing Women & Girls Feeling Ukraine.”

The report shows that forcibly displaced women from Ukraine are facing a multitude of gender-based risks including s*x and labor trafficking, family separation, and lack of mechanisms to reunify families, and lack of access to cash, trusted services, and reliable information.

It also demonstrates the need to ensure that women’s rights organizations and other local actors are integrated into response design and leadership from the beginning
