BDJ's video of his heartfelt new tune "Again" premiered last week in advance of the release this Friday 9/24 of his new EP, Roots.

Directed by Nate Pommering, it captures some moments from the recording of the new record, which features Ben, Bruce Dalzell, Ben Ervin, Eddie Ashworth, and Chris Keesey on five new BDJ tunes.

We are thrilled to announce that the new long awaited Ben Davis Jr. EP "Roots" will be released Friday, September 24 to coincide with the soft launch of the Supersensible Records website!

CDs and BDJ merch preorders will be available, as well as information about Ben's upcoming live performances with his new combo, That Suthernahia Sound.

Ben will be premiering the new video from the EP ("Again") this Friday September 17 at 7PM, followed by a live Facebook event during which he'll play songs and talk story from this and his other releases!

Hi everyone,

Thanks very much for liking the Supersensible Records page!

Launching a micro-indie record label during this pandemic was definitely not on my to-do list. Originally, I was intending for Supersensible to be a release vehicle for my wee group, Hardy Mums. (More about that at a later time.)

However, late last year I had the unusual good fortune of revisiting a project that had remained dormant since the mid 90’s: the long-lost debut album of my musical colleague and great friend Zane Drake. I’ve known and worked with Zane since his days with the San Francisco-based indie rock combo, The Missionarys. Zane and his band mate Joe Laub had moved to Los Angeles in the early nineties to storm the gates of the record biz. After a few frustrating and indifferent years (and one fantastic album), the band decided to call it a day.

Zane shortly set to work on his own project, which I also had the pleasure to produce and play on. Tapping the prodigious talents of crack LA session players Glenn Harris (guitars), Tom Lilly (bass), and Gary Ferguson (drums), the tracks were recorded sporadically during 1995-1996. Once again, while received well by A&R folks around town, the project didn’t gain the traction it deserved.

Time passed and I wound up in southeast Ohio to be a college professor, while Zane continued to make music in LA, turning out a string of great independently released albums. Last year, Zane gave me a holler and expressed an interest in locating the mixes from those initial sessions and putting them out. Over the course of the next few months, I went through my extensive (if chaotically organized) R-DAT session library and selected the best versions of those tracks, and had them newly mastered by reclusive engineer Wiley Rhyolite. We were also lucky to get legendary West Virginia based graphic designer, Jimbo Valentine (Tyler Childers) to create the album’s graphics.

Long story short, the resulting album Goodnight My Sweetheart The Devil by Zane Drake and The Buffalo Brides is set to release very shortly on Supersensible Records! We’ll keep you posted as to when it starts streaming. In the meantime, we’ve linked Zane’s Hear Now page where you can check out previews of the tracks. Physical copies will also become available shortly.

We’re really happy to have these amazing songs finally see the light of day! Please enjoy the teaser tracks and we’ll let you know when the full album goes live.
