Homeless dog marks one year at the shelter, staff throw him a party to make the best of it

Brownie marked one year of living at the Gwinnett Animal Shelter on Sept. 1.

While that’s not what shelter staff had hoped for the 2-year-old, they are making the best of it. Instead of focusing on the homeless dog’s one-year anniversary, shelter staff decided to celebrate the pup’s birthday with all of his favorite things.

Traffic Accident / Death – Stone Mountain Highway

UPDATE #1: The driver of the black passenger car sustained injuries. Multiple passing motorists stopped to control and comfort the injured driver prior to officers arrival. GCPD officers approached the scene and attempted to render aid. The driver was in medical distress and had to be restrained for transport to the hospital for treatment. He later died.

At this time, it is still unclear what the driver died from. No GCPD officer utilized any deadly force weapon against the driver. The gold SUV was abandoned on the side of the road at the time of the accident.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until his next-of-kin can be notified. An autopsy will help determine the cause of death.

ORIGINAL: The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating an in-custody death following a traffic accident on Stone Mountain Hwy at/near West Park Place Blvd in unincorporated Stone Mountain.

The preliminary basics: Officers were attempting to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver fled and eventually crashed into another vehicle. The driver (suspect who fled) became non-compliant as officers were trying to render aid. He was transported to a local hospital and died shortly thereafter. At this time, it is still unclear what caused his death.

Officers did not discharge their firearm or use any deadly-force weapon against the driver.
