Streaming 🎮

This is hard to write, I haven’t streamed since May and announced I’d be taking at least a year off to really focus in on The Lizard Lounge. This post is a bit long so if you don’t feel like reading the rest here’s the gist:

I am officially “retiring” from streaming.

It never really was a career but it was a huge part of my identity for a long time (since mid 2017). Since I stopped streaming I have been much more focused at building my brand (The Lizard Lounge) and providing exceptional care for my animals. I’ve been much more focused, but occasionally I still feel a bit distracted.

I think part of that reason is because there’s this looming possible return to streaming in my head, I’ve recently even felt compelled to go live. However at the end of the day I’m not that guy, I only enjoy and play video games to catch up with my buddies in different states. I am a gamer I’d have a hard time giving that up, but I’m not a streamer.

The stuff in my life that’s worth sharing is my reptiles, the knowledge I have about them, and creating cool baby geckos. I’ve kept all my eggs spaced out across so many baskets my whole life and I’m so glad I got to experience so many things because of that.

It’s definitely time for some changes I’m ready to put this idea that I can “do it all” to rest and finally lock in on what’s most important.

I appreciate all the people who used to watch me and support the stream. It was a great time while it lasted. But I’ve got so much more left to be excited about in life.

Shoutout to me for recognizing this has been holding me back, and to my therapist for telling me to get it over with this morning at my appointment. He’s a real one ☝🏼

Hey guys. So I have been recently becoming much more productive when it comes to producing content again. If you’ve been watching the stream over the last few months, and new YouTube I launched a few weeks back you’ll know what I mean. On top of the stuff I’ve already put out, I’ve been working on a bunch of stuff for a channel called Ultra Films with some of my buddies. As well as my business The Lizard Lounge where I do reptile breeding and education. Plus a couple other projects; writing a book, a mental health podcast. I’m even writing jokes to try out standup comedy…

Recently and for a while I’ve pondered how I do it all? Lots of my friends and coworkers ask me this too and my only answer is just sheer willpower, but it’s a longer answer than that. I’ve have always been doing “more than what seems reasonable”. Putting so much on my plate that I never have any time for myself or give myself the chance to really take these things to the next level. As much as I enjoy all the things I do… I’m aware there needs to be some changes. I’ve known it for some time and have made plenty of adjustments, I stopped working two jobs at the end of 2021 to grant myself more time for these things. But there needs to be a bigger shift.

I read a quote the other morning from Jim Carrey, that said “If you’re not willing to downgrade your lifestyle for a year to have the lifestyle you want forever, you care too much about what people think.”

Now I’m not too sure I care that much what others think but I’ve definitely pieces my identity together as the sum of all the parts of me. Being a streamer and gamer is one of those many pieces. I’ve been doing one stream a week for some time now and I was well aware when I came back to streaming it would never grow with one stream a week, regardless of how many clips I post, regardless of how great the streams go. It would never have taken off. But I did it still because I loved it and enjoyed doing it, it’s fun being live! However I have so much else that I have to give my attention too. It something I’m pretty good at balancing honestly, but to what end?

So I decided that for the next year I’m going to step away from streaming and focus more attention where it’s due. I would love to see any of you who don’t already follow my other pages to come see me over there.

I want to really lock in on these things, I’ve been getting ramped up for breeding the last 2 years and am finally pairing geckos.

I have a team for Ultra Films helping me generate content and build our community.

I have realistic goals that’ll help take me to that next step and have for both of these projects, however I haven’t made goals for streaming in like a year. It’s just not as important right now. In a year my goal is to be making some income from both of these projects, and maybe then I’ll have some more free time because of less hours at work. I don’t plan to give up streaming and making content around it forever, but for now I have to downgrade my lifestyle to make sure I set myself up for where I want to be. I hope you guys understand and I hope you guys can support me on my other projects until I ultimately return.

Looking at all the Fortnite drama on Twitter is making me see clearer than ever why I left the game to play other games last month.

Epic has been making these drastic unwanted changes to gameplay that aren't improving the game. When they added the 50 Health/Shield and mats everyone was unsure of how that would affect the game. A lot of players, however, embraced that change and then were frustrated when it got switched back.

But then Epic gave us Arena mode and that felt like a fair compromise, but with the stretched res changes that will now affect so many players is lighting a fire under the community once again.

I personally played last night in the arena had a great time in the arena with the new bow, being a console player I understand this change doesn't affect me. But I've thought about switching over to PC fulltime in the past and these changes would've outraged me. Stretched res has become an integral part of players gameplay and totally deserve to be angry.

What are your thoughts guys? Let me know. I'll be playing some Arena this week, thinking about making a late run to the higher divisions.
