Buhari Approves 10 Billion Naira Intervention Fund For Enugu Airport
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of 10 Billion Naira for an intervention fund for the upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
President Buhari gave the approval following a meeting with South-East Governors and Leaders from the zone at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“I have approved the sum of 10 Billion Naira for an Intervention fund for the upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. I have the assurance of the Minister of Aviation that the work will be done speedily and to the highest standards.
“Even as we have many items competing for our limited resources, we will continue to prioritize infrastructure investments in every part of the country. It is our responsibility to ensure Nigeria’s infrastructure is fixed. we will keep doing this,” Buhari stated after the meeting.
The South-East Governors and Leaders from the zone on Thursday demanded for a special fund for the rehabilitation of the Akanu Ibiam Airport in Enugu State.
They made the demand during the meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi, also sought for declaration of state of emergency on roads and erosion in the South East.
He said: “We are here to kindly urge Mr. President to approve special fund for the Akanu Ibiam Airport just like what was done for Abuja Airport.”
According to him, the closure of the Enugu airport has grounded activities in the region and causing great hardship on the people.
The deplorable South East roads, he said, have made the lives of the people miserable.

ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY COMMESERATES WITH VICTIMS OF ONITSHA INFERNO SETS UP COMMITTEE TO AVERT FUTURE OCCURRENCE.
In an emergency seating of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Eddy Ibuzo, Member Representing Onitsha North 2 Constituency moved a motion calling on the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor for as a matter of urgency constitute a committee that would felicitate the one already set by the governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano in view to curb future occurrence of fire outbreak in Onitsha Metropolis. Hon. Ibuso described the Onitsha inferno as an accident and shouldn't be linked with political terminologies and assured victims of justice to back the state government's measures to forestall further occurrence of such ugly event in the state.
Seconding the motion, Hon. Beverly N. Ikpazu, Member representing Onitsha South 2 Constituency, stated how broken she was seeing lives and properties lost to the inferno.
The motion however raised enormous emphatic concerns in the plenary, in their respective parts, Hon. Emeka Aforka, representing Orumba North. Hon. Uzoma Eli, Onitsha South I Constituency. Hon. Chidi Livinus, Ihiala one Constituency. Hon. Barr. Chuka Ezenwunne, Idemili South Constituency. Hon. Pete Ibida, Njikoka II Constituency. Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu, Dunukofia Constituency. Hon. Tim Ifedioranma, Njikoka I Constituency And others spoke passionately on the motion.
Ruling the motion, The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor passionately condemned the incident and pleaded with Ndị Anambra to support the committee to ensure lasting solution to such incident and pleaded with those affected to show full compliance with the government as measures are to be carried out as soon as possible.
The Speaker on behalf of Anambra Lawmakers commeserates with victims of the inferno and commend Governor Willie Obiano for his apt response to assist victims, according to the Speaker, "Preliminary investigation posits that the cause of the inferno was an accident of a fully loaded petrol tanker and described it as an unfortunate incident that should be devoid politics but calls for sober reflection and how to find a lasting solution to such incident. He further sympathized with the immediate and extended family of the woman and child who died in the accident as well as other victims and prayed God to grant the government wisdom to find permanent solution to situations like this and as well, give other victims the grace and enablement to recover the set back.
Resolutions of the plenary posits that;
1. Anambra State House of Assembly commeserates with victims of the Onitsha inferno.
2. Sets up committee to investigate causes of the inferno and make recommendations on ways of ensuring that there no further occurrence.
