George Lebese thanks supporters
“Games against Tuks are never easy,” reflects Lebese on the 1-0 win. “We didn’t want to lose that match. We wanted to win it at all cost, which happened thanks to Siphiwe Tshabalala’s goal from a free-kick. We celebrated as a TEAM, with all the players being involved, which was great. It was a reflection on the spirit in the team.”
The 26-year-old also talks excitedly about the Chiefs supporters, who were present in great numbers at Pretoria’s Tuks Stadium, being very vocal.
“It was fabulous to have our supporters in full force behind us,” Lebese reacts. “The negativity of earlier this season has disappeared. It’s great to see that when it comes to crunch time - towards the end of the season - that our supporters rally so vocally supporting the team. It gives us extra energy!”
“We would love to get to 63 points as soon as possible,” comments Lebese. “As a team, we want to win the league for our fantastic supporters and the Club. However, Polokwane City are a good team, especially in the middle of the park. Luckily, we play at the FNB Stadium, as it has a bigger field, which suits our style of play. We won’t underestimate Polokwane.”
He concluded by saying that supporters are really the 12 person on the team and when the stadium is empty it is like playing with one team member less and then it’s full the team is even stronger!
Doctor Khumalo condemns xenophobic attacks
Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Doctor Khumalo is shocked about the xenophobic attacks against foreigners in South Africa.
“Such attacks can never be condoned,” the Amakhosi legend reacts. “If people disagree with each other, they should talk, as we say at Chiefs, do it with Love & Peace.”
“There are certain ways to deal with issues and the way this situation is being handled at present is simply wrong. I appeal to all - we should not allow this to happen.”
Amakhosi have always been vocal against xenophobia and have been active in promoting unity in diversity.
“It doesn’t matter if you are born in South Africa or not,” continues Khumalo. “What does matter is that we live together in the same country in harmony. Whatever your background, we are all brothers and sisters! We are all Africans.”
We are getting our house in order
Jessica Motaung, Marketing Director of Kaizer Chiefs has expressed how happy she is with the headway branches are making in organizing themselves into structures. “We are not to forget that supporting Kaizer Chiefs is about enjoyment of the game - is a social club and when we meet, we do so in Kaizer Motaung’s name – that is why it’s critical we practice Love & Peace at all times”.
Head Office is on a crusade to establish supporter’s branch structures nationally that will be able to support the launch of the new Amakhosi Supporters Club at the start of the new season.
If you look up the meaning of a ‘structure’ it offers an explanation that describes a system which is able to support a load far greater than the elements it is made of. It is a collection of inter-related relationships bound together by a processes and supported by an informed network.
That is exactly the purpose of our structures – a support system!
Branches need to develop and foster a network within a geographical area looked after by a democratically elected executive team represent all branches in the electorate.
These structures bind us together – they make us one very big family.
Western Cape has been operating successfully as a provincial structure with regional / clusters structures as their foundation for some time now.
KwaZulu Natal went through this process on March 14 at Moses Mabhida before the Raja Game.
Eastern Cape will be having their final elections on May 1 in East London – contact Sivuyile Kupelo on his email address - [email protected]
Northern Cape embarked on this journey on the April 11 in Warrington.
Gauteng branches held their regional and provincial elections on April 12 at the FNB stadium.
Limpopo elections will be held on April 18 in Polokwane at Miami Lodge 159 Marshall Street – telephone number – 015 291 4290. The meeting starts at 10:00 and a maximum of 9 executive from each Limpopo branch may attend.
North West will hold their elections on May 2 in Rustenburg – venue to be confirmed.
Mpumalanga elections will be held on May 30 in Nelspruit – venue to be confirmed.
Free State will be the last province to hold their provincial elections and this will be done on the June 6 in Bloemfontein – venue to be confirmed.
The task of both the regional and provincial structures is to serve the branches and supporters in their electorate. To be clear, there is no financial reward or gain, no power trip or special treatment for those elected – they do this out of love for the Amakhosi and their desire to serve you!

Social media under the spotlight
It’s no secret that social media has become not only a powerful tool in connecting with one another, but also a great way in helping to spread information at a very rapid pace.
But with any great tool comes great responsibility. Users must know how to navigate it in such a way that they can avoid running into unnecessary personal or cultural challenges.
Due to the culture around social media, people often blame the tools themselves for causing “problems” rather than looking at the human consciousness behind how people are using it. This can be said about many things we do in our world. Inherently they are fine, but the way we use them can be very destructive. In this sense, there is nothing wrong with technology. It all comes down to how we use it and, ultimately, our consciousness.
Of course you can do whatever you like, you have complete freedom to do that but remember that freedom comes with responsibly.
We have put together some tips that we hope you will find beneficial.
Words hurt
It seems like we have a really easy time being extremely rude and mean to each other online – so much so that most of what we say online would never be said to that person if we were in front of them. Please remember that there is a human on the other side of the screen and ask yourself why you want to be so mean or angry in the first place.
Never use social media when you are angry or intoxicated
When we are angry we say things we often don’t mean. Words said in the heat of the moment help us deal with our frustration as they give us an outlet. The real drawback of social media is that these cannot be retracted. They will be there forever. The same applies to be using social media when you are intoxicated – we say things we don’t mean.
Be true to yourself
On social media it’s easy to tell a story that isn’t true. Because we can pre-meditate and alter anything we like, we can create a version of ourselves that doesn’t even exist simply so we can make ourselves look a certain way for others. Remember to be genuine and if you find yourself wanting to alter your story, ask yourself why. How does this make me feel? What am I trying to get out of this?
Stranger danger
You won’t just let anyone into your home - apply the same rules to your social media life. You are exposed to millions of people looking into your life simply by following your posts on these platform.
Keep it clean
More and more potential employers base their hiring decisions on what they see on social media rather than on the CV. Will your social media life will pass the test? One hears of so many stories about people losing their jobs, getting fines, losing medical aid coverage and even break-up relationships because of something on social media that seemed totally innocent at the time. Remember that every action has a reaction!
We urge you to be more aware of how you are using social media platforms and to consider the far reaching implications they have on your day to day life.

Counting down the season – only 4 games left
As get to the end of season the passion of supporters grows exponentially after each passing game. It was really amazing to see our supporters standing together as one unit during the Tuks game! The atmosphere was very positive and the players commented afterwards that they felt a real difference. We know that the excitement at the stadium is just going to get bigger with each passing game we head towards Port Elizabeth.
Don’t stay at home to watch the game – come and join in this amazing experience.
Polokwane City will be next, when they visit the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, April 22 (kick-off at 19:30).
The epic league title deciding clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Chiefs will take place at Pretoria’s on April 29 (kick-off at 19:30). Sundowns are the current title holders, while Amakhosi won the Absa Premiership in 2013. Please note that there is a change of venue for this game – the game will no longer be held at Loftus but has been moved to the Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville.
We are then back to FNB on the May 6 for our last home game of the season against the Clever Boys – Bidwest Wits. We urge all local supporters to really go all out for this game and come to the stadium! Kick-off is at 19:30
The last game of the season is an away game in Port Elizabeth against Chippa United on Saturday May 9. Kick-off is at 15:00. We have not yet finalised our activation plans for this game but we will keep you updated. Chippa has advised that tickets for this game will be sold via Computicket but as yet we have not received confirmation of the date that tickets will go on sale.
