The time has come to close the book on the the Big Satsuma Radio journey, and a journey it has been. Born out of chaos and necessity, the mantra from the start was that it was all about the music.
BSR was always a place where presenters could play what they want without any restriction or favoritism to established artists. Most of the music we received in the submissions inbox was shared with all the presenters, so what might not fit one show, could get aired on another. Support to the independent artists has always been top priority.
Lets not forget what we have done as a station. We supported Daniel Gierke with his 6122 project, a tribute to Andrew Fletcher, which not only got into the German album charts, also raised money for charities in the UK.
The Electroniq gigs, hosted by Lucida Records at the Dublin Castle in Camden has also been supported with special shows and interviews and features of incredibly talented electronic artists.
Kurt and Bridget have done a number of interviews with the likes of Andy McCluskey, Morgan King, Polly Scatttergood, Wolfgang Flur and Steve Hovington, the latter having a special feature on the You Tube channels. Most the interviews are still on the channel if you want to have watch.
We've also done features on mental health awareness and as part of that interviewed Frank Turner, who is about to perform in his 3000th show in early 2025.
The station has broadcasted for nearly 16,000 hours, playing thousands of tracks and we thank every presenter who has been involved in the station. Every presenter has worked professionally with the station and provided shows of a high standard as well as having day jobs and other commitments. The thousands of hours graft in listening to music, planning, producing, recording, promoting etc etc etc by the presenters has been truly appreciated.
The final thanks goes to everyone who has supported that station. The artists for providing the music, supporting the shows and the station. The listeners who have given up their time for a couple of hours to hear the music provided by the artists, presented by the presenters and aired by Big Satsuma Radio.
If that isn't , we don't know what is!
Kurt, Bridget and Stuart
