“Songs to Sing and Tales to Tell”
The H***y Tonk Papa Podcast is an audio journey into the life and legacy of my father, Whit Connah. He was a powerhouse singer and musician who loved nothing better than making music with others.
He's impacted the lives of musicians from Atlanta to Appalachia, New Orleans to New York, Ireland to Serbia - and beyond. If he recognized talent in someone, he often called them into the spotlight, ready or not. After he passed away in 2016, I went on a mission to sit down and talk with people whose lives he touched. Many said they might not have pursued their music or picked up an instrument if he hadn't encouraged them. Thankfully, I recorded the conversations. They were so meaningful I knew I needed to find a way to get them out into the world. And that's how I came up with the idea to do a podcast. Will there be new interviews? Absolutely. The majority of the episodes will be current interviews, and we'll weave in the ones I recorded in 2017 and 2018.
It does my heart good to bring this project to life - because it keeps his legacy alive.
