While the film itself is based in 1920’s Europe, Vangelis wanted to record something more contemporary than expected. His approach was to beautifully mix in electronic instruments (like the CS-80 synthesizer) with traditional instruments throughout his arrangement. He ultimately created an academy award winning ear worm that’s a necessity in any collection.

There's not only something special about this movie, a true sequel to the 1978 original, but also about the soundtrack. It feels even more authentic and gritty than the original. Cody and Davies add so much black magic to the soundscape while appropriately hanging on to key aspects from John's original score. “We wanted to honor the original Halloween soundtrack in terms of the sounds we used,” Davies explained. “We used a lot of the Dave Smith OB-6, bowed guitar, Roland Juno, Korg, Roli, Moog, Roland System 1, Roland System 8, different guitar pedals, mellotron, and piano.” (source: www.theofficialjohncarpenter.com). It's a rare thing when both a movie's soundtrack score and album can musically articualte an era, and that era being the early 90's. While The Crow's soundtrack album is very grungy and alternative, the score itself is much more soft and melodic, lulling you and comforting you. It's a perfect contrast to the dark and bleak style of the movie. This album is fantastic from begining to end whether or not you celebrate Devils Night.

Is this one of the greatest video game soundtracks ever to be created? We say, Yes. Yes it is. Twenty years after the video game release we have to thank for this beautiful remaster. It's so well done that you'd be hard press to even recognise this as video game music. That is until you get to the boss fight music. Either way, this album rocks whether your monster hunting or cooking a holiday meal. We love video game music as much as we love movie soundtracks and we know you'll love this one. If you can find this limited release pick it up.

Do we really need to tell you why this album is in our collection? Seriously, it's John, every soundtrack I do is amazing, Williams. It's also an amazing score to a really great Dracula film helmed by none other, Frank Langella. The theme alone is classic John Williams. Once heard it sticks with you and replays over and over in your head, just like all of John Williams' work. Do as we did and invite this album into your collection. You won't be sorry.

Sorcerer marks Tangerine Dream's first soundtrack album and ninth album overall, and pretty much lays the ground work to their future scores. The moment the music starts you know you're in for a wild synthesizer ride. This soundtrack is also Tangerine Dream's third highest ranking album in the UK charts. As we stated back on the Firestarter day. When you see Tangerine Dream on a soundtrack, you buy it. No thinking needed, you buy it and thank us.

This pressing is the Target exclusive which included an unannouced puzzle, a 7"" bonus single, and an exclussive red, white, and blue swirl colorway. When they announced this record they kept the contents of the 7"" very quite. We don't want to spoil the surprise, but it's something very fun and special. It might the single reason (pun intended) that it made the list! We're not sure what happened, but we think it's a bit weird that it's a double LP that only has 3 playable sides. There's no etching, artwork, or a single piece of content on the forth side.

Finding this record second hand and still factory sealed was definitely a collecting highlight. Soon after, it became one of our favorites. It's not just a favorite because it has the late 19th century orchestration of the Dance of Death, but because it also contains the music to one of the more famous moments from Disney's Fantatsia. For classical music this compilation hits hard and is a must listen. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection as soon as possible.

David Cronenberg definitely liked his psycholigical body horror movies and once again who better to score them, but Howard Shore. Pressed for the first time on vinyl this copy is one of three variants brought to us by . Listening to these two scores together put smiles on our faces and we thank the vinyl gods for blessing us with this pressing.

What can we say? When the name Giorgio Moroder is on the record cover you buy the record. Also, who can resist a title song sung by David Bowie? We showed up for the cats but we definitely stayed for the sweet, sweet, sultry synths of Giorgio. Definitely pick this album up if you haven't already. Also, be on the lookout for any large black cats.

Tracks like, "Walkin in Hawkins", "Euology”, "First Lie", and others on this record feel so familier and fit perfectly in this universe, while also revealing a continuation of the score and the composer growth and contuned experimentation. There are plenty of familier tones, but new rythms, layers, and effects push most of these tracks beyond what we heard on the first season. We also get the pleasure to bask in the beauty of more art, which supidly forgot to metnion in our season one post. That dude. His s**t is pure dopeness and just oozes cool. Truth time. We haven't seen this crowd funded Belgian horror film, but we have listened to it's amazing soundtrack. It's dark, it's gritty, and dammit, it's also synthy. If you can find one of the five different variant pressings it's a definite buy in our books. Now we just need to track down the movie so we can see if it's half as good as the soundtrack.

Quite possibly one of the best soundtracks in the last five years. The music is amazing just as the french film it backs. It is haunting while at the same time beautiful. There's a childlike quality to the music that masks a dark and eerie undertone that hits you when you least expect it.

The film, “Room 237” is an homage and study of the classic Stephen King story directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick, “The Shining”. The soundtrack stays within that same theme and then some. It feels like a study and performance of various themes and theories from classic horror soundtracks and electric/synth composers of yesteryear. It’s like listening to a super group of Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, Goblin, and other master of these synth-driven and Prog influenced soundtracks. The package design is nice and different, but it's also blocky, thick, and hard to work with. It's one of the only records we've purchased that's included a CD, which was both compelling and relevant during its release. However, the180g yellow and red combination of vinyl is extremely gorgeous, and helps make this record one of our visual favorites.

The wild concept of, "It Follows" sucked us right in! It was something that felt so unique, but also extremely 80s and familier. The plot is almost a trope of death following the sexually promiscuous youth of 1980's horror. It's nostalgic, a little hipster ironic, and mostly a fun watch. But let's be clear. THE SOUNDTRACK SAVED THIS FILM! To us anyway. It played in a digital space that is both familiar and completely uncomfortably alien! We love listening to this soundtrack, but at times, it's so aggressive and monstrous, it can be hard to feel anything but a little uneasy and nervous, even without the context of the movie. In fact, while writing this blurb in a large corporate office space, listening to some of the tracks. A dreadful feeling takes over. One begins thinking of the moment when it's time to stand-up and peek above these cubicle walls. Why's it been so quiet? There's no one here except that blurry figure slowly creeping this way. When you listen to this, even while vacuuming the house, your fear an imagination will run wild!

Originally released in 1965, this pressing is a black and white split vinyl from released in 2017. To be honest, we didn't know what to fully expect from this one. It was on mega sale, we loved the black and white split, and thought it would be a great addition to Halloween night spins. That's it. BUT! We were blown away! This music is full of great guitar and super rad 60s vibes. It feels like 60s television, but also embodies the cheekiness of the entire decade. Highly recommended! The top track is super difficult for this one. It's a pretty solid tie between, "Morticia's Theme", "Uncle Fester's Blues", and "Gomez".

This is one of the few "Various Artist" type soundtracks in this collection, but it's a classic. The Ghostbuster franchise has entertained generations, and is one of our favorites. This record is always fun to play at a Halloween party, especially when so many people are wondering why they're all of sudden listening to Air Supply. Our top track on this one is definately, "Savin' the Day".

While the surprising collaboration between Reed and Wakeman resulted in an interesting and dynamic score, we picked this album for the 2018 release from . The package design, original artwork from , and vinyl color ways are beautiful and bring you smack dab into those eerie vibes you felt as a kid. This version of the pressing ("The Raft") brings those extra heebie-jeebies! You remember why you wear water shoes and still get uneasy around unidentifiable blobs of algae or muck in the water. This is the first time the music has been released in ANY format. The process included a "lengthy search", but they were able use the original source materials to re-master this release specifically for vinyl. :: 180g "Lake Water Clear & Black Blob” vinyl - Old style tip-on gatefold with built-in booklet - 45 RPM

The music on this soundtrack brings back a lot of memories for one of us. Specifically the memory of having seen this movie at far to young an age. Seriously though, that hospital scene really messed one of us up. This 2017 reissue of a fantastic score is pressed on beautiful smokey translucent green vinyl and comes with a lenticular cover that will hopefully help distract you from such chilling memories.

Who better to score music for a film about an evil murderous car than John Carpenter? Granted, he did also direct the film, so it only makes sense. This soundtrack is full of wonderful synth that really makes you question any older cherry red cars that happen to drive by when listening to this music. Keep your eyes on the road with this one.

In all honesty we own this because it's Tangerine Dream doing what they do best. Glorious 80's synth electronic music that Tangerine Dream was known for to accompany an 80's Sci-Fi/Thriller/Horror movie. When you see their name on an album cover you get it. No questions asked, and spoiler alert, you'll see another Tangerine Dream album pop up in the future. To recap, not that great of a movie, but a pretty fantastic super hot soundtrack.

This movie was the third highest grossing movie the year it came out giving Mel Brooks two movies in the top three, with Blazing Saddles taking the number one spot. The soundtrack is very dialogue heavy due to the era it came out, however, don't let it stop you from enjoying the music in the background composed by John Morris. It is fantastic and could really shine by itself if ever there was a repress. In one bit the character Igor delivers a fanous line that would later inspire Steven Tyler, of Aerosmith, to write "Walk This Way" because he thought it was such a funny moment in the film. One of our personal favorite tracks is “Puttin' On the Ritz”. While this movie itself lacks a certain horror flair it makes up for it in comedic genius making it a Halloween must.

There's a lot of great things to say about Stranger Things, and particularly about the music itself, but the thing that's the most interesting to us was the vinyl release. When this record came out both of us were either getting into vinyl, or ramping back up and purchasing new vinyl. This release shocked both of us in the amount of variants, and still does to this day! Volume One, has 9 different US pressings and 4 UK pressings. Volume Two, had 7 US pressings and 4 UK pressings. All together "Stranger Things: Season One" in its' entirety had 24 different vinyl variants to choose from. Everything from "VHS Black" (LOL) to Yellow/Black "Waffle Swirl". The two variants we're featuring are Vol. 01 "Clear" 150g Limited 500 copies (URP Distribution Exclusive), and Vol. 02 "The Upside Down - Clear / Black Salt & Pepper" 150g (indie retail exclusive). The most shocking fact about this particular record is that the original grammy award-winning soundtrack was mostly a re-recording of the original music from the film. This pressing (Mondo 2017) features the score as composed and recorded for the film. The album's co-producer Mike Matessino, restored, edited, and mixed the music from the original studio elements for the best possible quality, and is approved by the composer himself. This score, from the Academy Award-Winning Herrmann, is placed 4th in the American Film Institute's 25 Greatest Film Scores of all time. The score's most famous cue, and one every single person reading this knows, almost didn't happen. Originally, Hitchcock did not request any music for the shower scene, but Herrmann created the epic cue anyway; and it was approved by Hitchcock. When Herrmann attempted to remind Hitchcock of his original directorial intention, he famously replied, "Improper suggestion, my boy, improper suggestion." This pressing is the 2018 (40th Anniversary) release from and features original artwork from Mike Saputo (). The original U.S. pressing of Halloween (c.1982) was essentially a remix. Legendary composer and sound designer Alan Howarth, was instructed by himself, to mix the original 16 masters to create ""the best sound"" rather than commit to the original order or film mix. In this 2018 release, Howarth transferred the original 35mm film music stems and arranged them in chronological order; making it the first vinyl release to match what was originally heard in theatres and in-home on VHS.
