5 tips on how to become vegan in 2024! đŸ€ đŸ€ đŸ€

What’s your reason for being vegan? Or if you’re not vegan, what questions do you have about the lifestyle? Let me know in the comments!

For me: I first went vegan in around 2010 (I can’t exactly remember when, but my brother gave me a copy of ’s The Joy of Vegan Baking in 2010, so I must have been interested in the lifestyle at that point). I had been vegetarian for a few years, and lactose intolerant. So it was a matter of “I’m pretty much vegan already, why not just try it?”. But that wasn’t a good reason. I stuck with it for 2 years and then went back to vegetarian. Veganism only clicked when I truly understood my “why”: I love animals, I love other people, and I want to live my life in a way that harms everyone around me the least amount possible.

Btw, happy belated new year. I was taking a break for my mental health for the past 2 months, but am back and am excited to create more content to help you go — and stay — vegan!

Some Q2 highlights ft sun safety, good food, and gratitude đŸ„č

I used to feel so anxious in social situations whenever they involved food! Part of it was from feeling like I needed to restrict (thank you, diet culture). But a large part of it was because I’m vegan.

I always worried about:

- not having any food to eat
- not having enough food to eat
PS- not having the right food to eat — anything that was different from my friend’s I viewed as “wrong” because I didn’t want to be different
- having to talk about being vegan and people thinking I was weird (the worst!!)

Maybe it’s just me. I’ve always been a worrier!

But now I navigate social situations with ease! I attribute this to my positive mindset, and the fact that the world is a lot more vegan friendly than it was when I first tried to go vegan 15 years ago. And also, my friends and family are all awesome and so supportive of my veganism, even though most of them are not vegan themselves!

But what I’ve realized is:

- If people react badly to you being vegan, it’s a reflection of them, not a reflection of you.
- People don’t actually care what you eat, most of the time.

This has helped me focus on the fun in finding vegan food in non-vegan situations. Even if I have trouble, I focus on how much fun I’m having with the people around me. And I remind myself that any concerns people have about what I’m eating is coming from a good place.

I’m grateful for this positive change in me, because worrying about food is exhausting!

If you’re vegan, or have food allergies/sensitivities, do you worry about food in social situations? Did you worry in the past? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
