The 2022 Raptor R is officially happening, per Ford Performance. This version will start at $70,000 and will most likely have the Supercharged 5.2 V-8 with 700-760hp from the GT500.

Ford unveiled the 2021 Raptor today, which is massively improved and after some research today, I have to admit it’s a pretty incredible truck. It has the 3.5 Ecoboost with at least 450hp, my guess it’s 475-500hp. The suspension is massively improved amongst many other things. It looks sick too.

Not only does the normal Raptor have more travel than the TRX, it has a better approach angle. Thanks to the larger 36 gallon fuel tank, 1000+ less lbs of curb weight and much better fuel economy, the Raptor should see a 500 Mile fuel range, which is important for long-distance racer.

The questions are, how much better will the Raptor R be? Will it be worth waiting for and will it be worth the $15,000+ starting base price difference? How much will fuel prices increase within the next year? We already know that the TRX’s Hellcat motor is on its way out. Future Rams will begin seeing more hybrid powertrains.

What’s really interesting to me is this. Let’s just say the 2021 has 500hp. In 2022, fuel prices have increased substantially. Rather than throwing gas guzzling V-8 into the Raptor R, Ford hybridizes the Raptor R with 3 electric motors. One front two rear. Each with 50hp. We’re now talking 650hp that you would feel near instantaneously. Decent mileage, massive torque and even more range.

When Ram first showed the TRX concept back in 2016, it produced just 575 horsepower from its Hellcat-sourced supercharged V-8. But 575 horses isn't really enough, is it? Apparently not, because the production-spec 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has 702 horsepower.

Seven-hundred two horsepower. Seven-hundred two horsepower! In a pickup truck!
