We are all hearing and singing Christmas carols everywhere we go right now. And I love it.
But this line in Oh Holy Night stands out.
I don't know about you, there's a lot of joy and happiness during the season, but so many are weary right now. And it feels like the whole world is weary.
But the good news is we don't have to be festive and happy all of the time to feel the thrill of joy at the news of Christ's birth.
The words of the song from Oh Holy Night go like this:
O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appears and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees; O hear the Angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born
O night, O Holy night, O night divine!
What a wonderful reminder that after the world lay in sin and darkness the thrill of hope shone brightly. And a new and glorious day is here.
There are many things that bring us joy and happiness. Many things that stir hope in us. But nothing compares to the hope of Jesus. Nothing.
During this season, while we are all a little weary for different reasons...remember...we can rejoice. Because of Him. Because of the birth of Jesus and the gift that He is to each of us.
Even as you struggle. Even as you are shrouded in sadness or fear or worry.... Rejoice!
