When I started writing this post, like most mortals… 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Then I thought, Steve what’s the most helpful thing you could tell yourself to help you forge ahead in your business right now?
I’m saying this because what I’m gonna say applies to me, probably more than anyone else I can think of… 𝗕𝗨𝗧 (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦), it probably applies to you too.
So, what’s the tip I’d pass on for the biggest of shifts in building your business?
Simply put, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. Get it out there.
I’ve seen post after post lately speaking about how to set up a Podcast, or how to create a video studio with all the fancy intro’s and outro’s. Or any number of other ways to spread your message.
Leading to questions like… What microphone should you use? What camera should you buy? What teleprompter is the best? (The answer is none by the way 😁) Which software should you use, and on and on it goes.
𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲.
If you’ve got a smartphone and something to say, you’re good to go. Never mind that it’s not studio quality. You’re not the Beatles or Spielberg, and you’re not trying to be.
Truthfully, some of the most valuable podcasts I’ve listened to were recorded on an iPhone while the person was sat in their car. No fancy stuff, just great valuable lessons that helped the audience and came from a place of wanting to serve.
And that’s what I really want to drive home with this post. Online marketing is the classic example of you getting back what you give out.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that good audio and video don’t matter, but fix that part later when you’ve built an audience and you’re making sales. Don’t stay at the starting blocks getting ready to get ready.
Honestly, it’s not the kit (or lack of it) or even the confusion of how to do it that’s keeping you stuck. That stuff can be figured out… it’s the fear.
Fear of being rejected.
Fear of being mocked for trying to build something awesome.
Fear that if you fail, then your dream just vanished into a puff of smoke.
If you stay where you are, then at least that dream stays alive and well, right?
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳… they actually like what you put out and start paying you compliments (Oh. My. Days!… the horror!). Then you might actually have to act like you’re really good at the thing you do (You’re better at it than you think you are BTW).
What if you’re discovered?
What if the elders of the Internet cancel you?
𝗢𝗥,
What if you actually put down all the nonsense and just went out and started helping people.
I mean genuinely helping people with what you have right now.
If you need to figure out the tech stuff as you go, don’t worry, 𝗜’v𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂.
I can show you how to build everything you’ll need inside the 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 system, but it’ll only help you if you decide that no matter what, you’re going to provide value to your market.
The money is a by product.
