Roraima Mountain in Venezuela, like other typical formations of this area, is a tepui, a term that means "House of the gods" in the language of the indigenous Pemon. These formations are the result of millions of years of erosion that have obliterated all the surrounding rock, leaving only these massifs, mainly composed of quartzite and sandstone, to emerge from the base substrate, formed mainly of granite. Another tepui known all over the world is the Auyantepui in Venezuela, from which the famous Salto Angel waterfalls originate, the highest in the world thanks to their "journey" of almost one kilometer of free fall.

It is not uncommon for the Roraima to emerge above a thick blanket of clouds, like a sort of island in the middle of a white sea. And it is precisely with the islands that this incredible environment shares many characteristics. First of all, the separation from the surrounding environments. When we speak of an "island" in ecological terms, in fact, we are not necessarily referring to a strip of land in the middle of the sea: often isolated valleys, glaciers, abyssal pits, lakes or other environments clearly separated from the rest of the world have the same peculiar characteristics of an island.

A pair of sandals that was found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun who reigned circa 1336-1327 BCE under the 18th Dynasty. They are made of wood that is overlaid with a marquetry veneer of bark, green leather, and gold foil on a stucco base.
Two human figures are depicted on the sole of each sandal under the arch of the foot. They represent Nubian (or Sub-Saharan African) and Asiatic captives. Each is depicted with his arms bound behind the back. Under the toes is a representation of four bows and a similar number is shown under the heel. The strap and thong represent an additional bow. This completes the nine bows associated with the nine traditional enemies of the ancient Egyptian state. The foes would be symbolically crushed underfoot with every step the pharaoh took.
This elaborately decorated pair of sandals (JE 62685) is now in the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, Cairo, Egypt. It will be displayed with the rest of Tutankhmaun's treasures in the new Grand Egyptian Museum when it opens its doors to visitors, hopefully later this year. 🌹

Tutankhamun's Viscera Coffin
Inside the canopic alabaster jars were found four small coffins. The one in this photo was under the protection of Duamutef, which means that it contained the wrapped and preserved stomach of Tutankhamun. The small coffin is made of gold, carnelian, rock crystal, obsidian, and glass. Tutankhamun appears with his arms crossed over his chest and his hands holding the staff and the flail, he wears a wide necklace and the nemes headdress with the cobra and the vulture on his forehead
