Theodosia Tramp Silent Film Publishing In 2009 Hala Pickford sought to publish a biography on Mabel Normand.

Unsatisfied with the treatment of silent film subjects by most publishers, Pickford decided to start her own company: 1921 PVG Publishing. Her company focused on all things silent film; fiction and non fiction. In 2013 Pickford renamed the company Theodosia Tramp Publishing, though the mission stays the same. Theodosia Tramp Publishing is the only publisher not only thrilled to focus on silent film, but insists upon it.

Phillip Dye is also trying to fund a reconstruction of Cleopatra that screened really well https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/lost-cleopatra-video-project/x/1608510 #/ . Share if you can! They could really use some blog write ups.

As movie patrons sat in darkened theaters in January 1914, they were mesmerized by an alluring temptress with long sable hair and kohl-rimmed eyes. Theda Bara--

A word on biopics of Rudolph Valentino: http://rudolphvalentino.org/biopics/

It incensed me so because my history with Vlad Kozlov goes way back. He’s usually not succeeding in bringing hi…

A blog with my personal thoughts on everything lately: forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/35

To avoid any issues I would like to say I am only speaking for myself (not representing anyone or anything) and the following is my opinion of course. There's been a lot of cute articles on the lack of women in film today and how 'back then' women were more involved in film. Blog superstar NitrateD…

In 1926 Silent Film Icon, Rudolph Valentino, died unexpectedly at the age of 31. That same year, he had finalized a bitter divorce from his wife of four years, Natacha Rambova. Valentino had been madly in love with the gorgeous and very talented designer, yet they had been unable to make their ma...

The rewritten story of Rudolph Valentino: http://forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/31

For so many years Rudolph Valentino was painted as a guy who couldn't act and was maybe too light in the loafers and did nothing of great importance. He was also (the story goes) the first celebrity to die young and leave such a lasting impact. Someone in 1950 as well as 1990 would hear his name a…

What the TCM layoffs really mean (+ srsly help film preservation) http://forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/27

Recently Twitter has been fired up over 'TCM layoffs'. Frankly as best I can tell a few small sources put it out there that 'this is one stop before they kill off TCM' and people responded as you'd expect them to. TCM is beloved, for many people outside of LA and NYC its the only way to experience…

Bert Williams and his newly found film: http://forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/25

MOMA announced today that an unnamed 1913 Bert Williams film has been found. Note the year, this is a BIG find. It will drastically rewrite what we know about race films, race in film, and the effects of Birth of a Nation. While an Alice Guy film from 1912 is still the earliest known 'race film' (…

Fatty Arbuckle vs Melissa McCarthy http://forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/24

A lot of my thoughts drift to Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle. I find his life, his work and his lynching fascinating (and sad). I relate deeply to him. While I am a devout Chaplinite, I find it a shame you can find no less than 20 books on the 'Great Three' (Lloyd, Keaton, Chaplin) but like...four on Arbuckl…

There was a post on Jezebel awhile ago about 'hipster racism'...which seems...unfair. You can't dub all youth movement (which the term has come to represent) racist unless we're talking the Hi**er Youth groups. It is representative of what I like to call 'privileged white rich kid syndrome.' Most...

It was only last night I wrote an article on the niece/nephew syndrome aka the adopted baby syndrome (people hiding their biological kids as nieces/nephews or adopted children to not violate their moral clause and remain in film.) In 1915 Jewel Carmen created what was perhaps the first Hollywood scandal by claiming an older man had taken advantage of her 'underaged' self (she said 15, while she was probably 18 or 19.) Barbara LaMarr was making scandals for most of the late 10s, but wasn't in films til 1920 so the two (scanda...

Women and children in film (for and including Shirley Temple): http://forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/12

Up late working on Mabel, I looked at my phone to see a little breaking news flash: Shirley Temple Black had died. I was surprised. I figured she may very well outlive her two older peers: Mickey Rooney and Baby Peggy. It sounds silly but she seemed so young...but she must have been in poor healt...

New article: Film fans and morbid curiosity: http://forgetthetalkies.com/blogs/post/9

It was pointed out by Mabel Normand's great nephew, Stephen Normand, that it is a bit distasteful to post in places related to Mabel 'commemorating' the death of William Desmond Taylor. As he put it, she was devastated by the murder and the scandal ruined her personally and professionally....unfair...

I've seen a lot of newspapers or events google, find some person, and ask them questions. For example a lot of journalists have gone with I, Fatty as a source (despite being a novel) to the point it was almost made into a major movie. The aneurysm that gives me you don't even know. Below are, in…
